POLITICS AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS (Bi-diplôme) POLIR-BIDIP:BA Single Honours

This is a four-year degree run jointly with the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (IEP) of Lille. You spend the second and the third years (Stages 2 and 3) at Kent and the first and fourth years (Stages A1 and A2) at the IEP. Upon successful completion of the 4th year of study you will be eligible for the BA from the University of Kent. To obtain the Diplôme of the IEP, you will have to successfully complete a 5th year of study either at Kent, at the

IEP or at an institution approved by the IEP. If you intend to spend your 5 th year at Kent, you will be eligible to apply for a Postgraduate Diploma or a Master’s in the Faculties of Social Sciences or Humanities. Students must obtain 480 Credits, at least 330 Credits must be at Level 5 or above and at least 210 Credits must be at Level 6. STAGE A1 (, 1st year, IEP, Lille) Core and optional modules for a total of 60 ECTS Credits (120 Kent Credits).

Single Honours

This is a four year programme that allows you to spend a year abroad, studying at a partner university. Our partner institutions are located in Brussels (Belgium), Grenoble, Lille, Paris (France), and Montreal (Canada) for the pathway with French; in Berlin and Marburg (Germany) for the pathway with German; in Turin and Siena (Italy) for the pathway with Italian and in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Madrid (Spain), Bogotá (Colombia), Lima (Peru) and Montevideo (Uruguay) for the pathway with Spanish.

Progression to Stage A is subject to achieving a 2(ii) (50%) overall as well as in the core language module, and a satisfactory record of attendance and coursework submission. Those failing to meet this requirement will be registered on the 3-year BA in Politics and International Relations.

POLITICS AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS WITH A YEAR IN THE ASIA-PACIFIC Single Honours POLIRASIA-A:BA Students spend their Year Abroad at one of our partner institutions in the Asia Pacific region. A list of partner institutions can be found at www.kent.ac.uk/goabroad/opportunities/az.html . Students negotiate a Learning Agreement with the Programme Director, who needs to approve the Year Abroad module choices. Modules taken abroad contribute 120 credits (equivalent to 60 ECTS) to the degree. In order to proceed to Stage A, students on the programme must achieve at least an average of 60% in Stage 2 and demonstrate satisfactory attendance and coursework submission records. Progression to Stage A may also be subject to a satisfactory interview and students’ choice of destination is always subject to approval by the Programme Director at her/his discretion. Students intending to study in Japan must in addition pass their Stage 1 Japanese language modules in

STAGE A – 120 Credits

Students will be required to undertake modules amounting to 120 Credits (60 ECTS Credits) drawn from the approved course offerings of each institution in English. Typically, the Stage A curriculum will include modules on Japanese and East Asian International Relations, Politics, History and Economics and other cultural issues. Japanese language modules will also be compulsory. Students must attend a minimum of classes (as advised by the partner institution in order to maintain their student visa status). Whilst students will have some choice in which university they go to, the final decision will be made by the Director of the programme, taking into consideration special circumstances that may need to be addressed.
