MARCH 10 – APRIL 18UNDERCURRENTS – THE PAINTINGS OF COLE CASEand JOAN KAHNCole Case’s landscape, water, and flowers provide a perfect mirror for the human psyche and have for hundreds of years as sensual traps for reflecting beauty, mortality, brevity or fear.Case uses the tactile and physical qualities of paint to engage thesenses and his subject matter as a construct for language of emotions; bridging visual experience to classic themes.

The finely crafted paintings of Joan Kahn fuse the geometric and organic in translucent images that convey a sense of spirituality and reverence. The geometric grids and geometric shapes accentuate intriguing and psychologically charged areas of varnished wood grain by framing or mimicking. Stylistically these are neo-modern works that reference the aesthetic history of Los Angeles and California as well as earlier twentieth-century European and American abstraction.
