Long Division Procedure: 623 7

Divide a number from the left (100’s).
Any remainder will be added to the nextright position (10’s). Divide the number.
Any remainder will be added to thenext right position (1’s). Divide theNumber.
• Computation of the answer is quick.
• Grouping a large number, and adding the remainder to the smaller number is systematic and easy.
• Making estimate starts with working with the digit on the left (biggest place value).
Advantage:
• Takes a long time to reach the answer.
• The method will fail in Algebra to determine series!
• Frustrating to solve complex word problems in a reasonable amount of time.
Disadvantage with the alternative method, such as Everyday Math
