Hello Division 10!First and foremost, I just wanted to thank

all of you for staying active, and continuing your volunteer work over the summer. Summer is really a great chance to keep up all of the great service that you do all year round.

I just wanted to remind you that it is still important to submit all of your forms over the summer, because some clubs are beginning to fall off. I really want all of you to get the credit for the great work that you do, so make sure that the district knows what you are doing!

Yours in Service,Ryan Coffey

Metro Division Kiwanis Eliminate Walk by: Michael Colella, Divisional Secretary

On July 17, the New York District of Kiwanis International in collaboration with several New York Key Clubs had attended an Eliminate Project walk for maternal and neonatal tetanus. Maternal and neonatal tetanus is a horrible disease that affects millions of mothers and children around the world, primarily in Africa or in Southern. The main causes of this disease’s proliferation are inadequate immunization services and limited clean delivery services, if any at all. My participation in this walk helped to make me more aware of the struggles of these families. Before the walk had even begun, several Kiwanis International members had told us that thousands upon thousands of dollars had already been raised for the sake of lesser fortunate mothers and unborn babies.

It was genuinely a gratifying experience to be told that your participation in something as simple as a walk could help change lives forever. Aside from making us appreciate all that we had, we were motivated to help people in other countries feel the appreciation we did by donating at the very least our time and support. We had also heard from a few members who had participated in direct relief efforts in Africa, emphasizing that no matter how little a person might think he or she is doing, any efforts given toward a cause, especially a collective one, add up over time and eventually make a great difference. Following the hour-long walk, group pictures had been taken and t-shirts were exchanged. Not a single person thought that his or her time had been misspent. All in all, it was a great experience to share with friends and not one I am going to miss for a long time.

The Eliminate Project

As I am sure that you all know, the Eliminate Project is a joint effort from Kiwanis and UNICEF, in an attempt to eliminate Maternal, and Neo-natal Tetanus in Third world Countries. This Upcoming year is the final year that Kiwanis has before it must reach its goal of $110 Million dollars, and as Key Clubbers, it is our job to help them. That is why we are going to be holding a lot of different fundraisers for this great cause, because it is important to advertise it in the final year. I encourage all of you to go to: http://sites.kiwanis.org/Kiwanis/en/theELIMINATEproject/home.aspx, to find out more about the Eliminate Project, and to tell your clubs about what they can do to help.

The International Convention is a once a year event where all of the Key Clubbers from over 32 countries are invited to join together to celebrate a year of service, and prepare for the next. This year I had the pleasure of attending the International Convention, and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I learned so much about Key Club and meet so many people from different states and countries, it was really incredible. I encourage all of you to next years ICON in Indianapolis Indiana. The upcoming ICON is especially important because it is the 100 year anniversary of Kiwanis, and all three branches of the Kiwanis family, Key Club, Circle K and Kiwanis, are all coming together to celebrate service!"Caring; Our Way of Life"
