CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION

P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

C: Amen.

C: But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and

cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(Silence for reflection on God’s Word and for self-examination)

P: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.

C: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have

sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what

we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not

loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal

punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us,

renew us, and lead us so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to

the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

P: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives

you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I

therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of

the † Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

KYRIE

OLD TESTAMENT READING

Psalm 95:1-7a

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;

let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before him with thanksgiving

and extol him with music and song.

For the LORD is the great God,

the great King above all gods.

In his hand are the depths of the earth,

and the mountain peaks belong to him.

The sea is his, for he made it,

and his hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us bow down in worship,

let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;

for he is our God

and we are the people of his pasture,

the flock under his care.

Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord.

People: Praise to You, O Christ.

EPISTLE READING

Ephesians 1:15-23

For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all

God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my

prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may

give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray

that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to

which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his

incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty

strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right

hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and

every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And

God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for

the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.

People: Thanks be to God.

ALLELUIA VERSE

Alleluia. Lord, to whom shall we go?

You have the words of eternal life.

Alleluia, alleluia.

HOLY GOSPEL

Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the twenty-fifth chapter.

People: Glory to You, O Lord.

Page 8: DIVINE SERVICE SETTING ONE - St. Peter Macomb...Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. 3. Sing with all the people of God And join in the hymn of all creation ñ 4. Blessing, honor, glory and

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his

glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the

people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put

the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. “Then the King will say to those on his

right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the

kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you

gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a

stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you

looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will

answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you

something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing

clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The

King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers

and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from

me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I

was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to

drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not

clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will

answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or

sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you

did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away

to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.

C: Praise to You, O Christ.

NICENE CREED – Saturday

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth and of all

things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of

God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of

very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all

things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and

was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was

crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third

day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the

right hand of the Father. And he will come again with glory to judge both the living

and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the

Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father

and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I

believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge on Baptism for the

remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the

world to come. Amen.

APOSTLES’ CREED – Sunday

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ,

His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin

Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He

descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into

heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will

come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian

Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

SERMON HYMN – LSB 512

“At the Name of Jesus”

1. At the name of Jesus Ev’ry knee shall bow,

Ev’ry tongue confess Him King of Glory now.

’Tis the Father’s pleasure We should call Him Lord.

Who from the beginning Was the mighty Word.

2. At His voice creation Sprang at once to sight,

All the angel faces, All the hosts of light,

Thrones and bright dominions, Stars upon their way,

All the heav’nly orders In their great array.

3. Humbled for a season, To receive a name

From the lips of sinners Unto whom He came,

Faithfully He bore it Spotless to the last,

Brought it back victorious When from death He passed;

4. Bore it up triumphant With its human light.

Through all ranks of creaturesTo the central height,

To the throne of Godhead, To the Father’s breast,

Filled it with the glory Of that perfect rest.

5. In your hearts enthrone Him; There let Him subdue

All that is not holy, All that is not true:

Crown Him as your captain In temptation’s hour;

Let His will enfold you In its light and pow’r.

6. Christians, this Lord Jesus Shall return again

In His Father’s glory, With His angel train;

For all wreaths of empire Meet upon His brow,

And our hearts confess Him King of glory now.

7. Glory then to Jesus, Who, the Prince of light,

To a world in darkness Brought the gift of sight;

Praise to God the Father; In the Spirit’s love

Praise we all together Him who reigns above.
