Naach features teams from all over the East Coast, with dances ranging from classical Indian dance to Bhangra to hip-hop to step. Cash prizes are awarded to the winners, and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Sankara Eye Foundation, an organization dedicated to restoring the gift of sight to blind children in South Asia. Eduardo de Filippo, possibly the finest and certainly the funniest and most beloved playwright in Italy, was a great Neapolitan actor who wrote dozens of plays for his own theater company. The musical score references 1960s cool jazz and 1940s swing, and the movement is inspired by high-energy vernacular dances of the past, including the Charleston and Lindy Hop. The concert will also feature choreography by Hofstra faculty members Giada Ferrone, Niles Ford, Amy Marshall, Maxine Steinman, and Karla Wolfangle.
