WHAT SERVICES WE PROVIDE
Building ControlWe provide an efficient, value for money, statutory building control service for work within the City of London. We will advise you pre-application, issue a formal approval, inspect the works and issue a completion certificate. We aim to make this as simple as possible, identifying potential risks early in the project, and working with you to ensure a smooth process.
Building Regulations AdviceIf you are planning works outside of the City, or are assessing options for a scheme, we can still give you professional advice. Our experience means we can often offer up alternative ways of meeting the requirements and can help you avoid potential problems later on. We can contribute to value engineering exercises, so as to remove unnecessary works and ensure a viable, but efficient project.
Fit Out and Minor WorksWe offer a dedicated service to small works, cost effective and speedy advice and approvals.
Dangerous StructuresWe provide a 24/7 call out to attend dangerous structures.
Fire Risk AssessmentsThe RRO (Regulatory Reform Order) requires that all non-domestic premises undertake a suitable and sufficient assessment of fire hazards and risks, identify general fire precautions and to ensure safe escape. We can undertake this assessment for you using our team of accredited and experienced Fire Risk Assessors.
For more information and a quotation visit: www.labc.co.uk/fire-risk-assessment
You can contact any of us on 020 7332 1000 or at

Partnerships and Cross Boundary WorkingWe can work in other areas of England through the LABC network. Some of our clients already have successful partnerships with us, allowing them to access our expertise on projects all over the country.
Off Site InspectionsMany projects have components manufactured off site, such as cladding panels and precast concrete elements We offer factory inspections of fabrication and testing of these elements so as to reduce your risk on site.
TrainingWe can provide CPD sessions at your offices on a wide range of Building Control subjects, including: Basics of the Building Control System, Building Regulations updates, Common issues to look out for, and technical discussions on each part of the Regulations. Please contact us for more information.
Marriage ActWe provide technical advice to the Community and Children’s Services department on premises seeking a Marriage License, or renewal.
Special and Temporary StructuresWe license special and temporary structures under Section 30 of the London Building Acts (Amendment) Act 1939.
You can contact any of us on 020 7332 1000 or at
“We have found the City DS team to be very helpful
and willing to discuss initial scheme proposals, which
has subsequently developed into sound advice prior to
scheme submission”

Building Control isn’t simply about constructing or altering a building. Our expertise encompasses everything from fitting out the shells of new builds or the restoration of existing structures to conservation projects, making them ready for occupation.
Our office draws on an archive of maps, plans and records that span hundreds of years – an invaluable resource. If you are planning a refit of an existing building, it is likely that our surveyors will have been involved in setting out earlier configurations of the same building a generation earlier.
Our most valuable asset is the knowledge and experience of our staff, many who have decades of Building Control experience in the City.
OUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE PAST INFORMS HOW WE SEE BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
“Over the past few decades our industry has
undergone rapid and significant changes and
have found that they continue to meet all these
new challenges through on going investment
while still maintaining the City’s heritage and
long established reputation for delivering an
independent, professional and user-friendly service,
supporting clients, design teams, and contractors.”
Paddy Brown - Skanska

DependableThe City of London has been in existence for over 800 years, and is able to draw upon a vast resource. You will find us here when you need us.
Customer serviceWe pride ourselves on the level of service and advice we have given to our customers over many years. This is endorsed by feedback to our annual Customer Survey. We will offer advice at any stage of a project but particularly value the chance to give the earliest input to best utilise our skills effectively.
At the Forefront of KnowledgeMembers of our staff sit on British Standards and other industry committees and policy making groups. We can guarantee we have the most up to date knowledge of current and upcoming technical and legislative thinking.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?
“The City of London Building Control Department
has been pivotal in delivering our project with their

“The City was very proactive and always willing to give
advice. They were also flexible in their interpretation of the
regulations which was crucial to our project. Their extensive
knowledge of the existing building, for which we also
worked closely with the City as the base-build Architect,
was critical to the successful outcome of our project.”
