More Mid-Winter Warm-Up
Lions, you have been a busy bunch in December. From Feeding the
Hunger, to honoring and caring for our Veterans, to making the
holidays easier for parents by providing toys for them to give their
kids, to Adopting Families, to Ringing Bells for Salvation Army, to
Holiday decorating with Seniors, and to providing warm clothing for
many. We have touch so many lives.
As you receive this – I hope your Christmas was all that you hoped and
planned. Happy New Year 2018 – Does your New Year’s resolutions
list include recruiting new members to join us in service?
Now, it’s time to “Celebrate Service Las Vegas Style” – at our
2017-2018 Annual Mid-Winter Convention. Many hours have been
spent by many Lions to plan and prepare for your arrival. I hope you
have made plans to come join your family of Lions to celebrate and to
learn more about the things our members do in support of our
communities and beyond. Come to reenergize yourself by picking up
some tips from speakers, and other Lions, which you can share with
your club. This is the place to greet old friends and meet new ones
which is the best part of Mid- Winter. It’s not too late, for all the
details go to the 5M-6 website, look under Events.

Global Service Team
Lion Steve Knudsen, 5M6 GSTDC
The role of the Global Service Team is to “champion the service framework of LCI and LCIF and
empower Lions and Leos around the world to maximize impactful service, action and growth.”
As we consider how our clubs can provide hands on service, we think about the 4 areas of service promoted during our
Centennial Service Challenge: Youth, Vision, Hunger and the Environment. I dare say every club serves in at least one and
likely more of these four areas. Many clubs have received banner patches in recognition of their service. As Lions moves
into its second century of service we are refocusing our efforts on providing even more service to even more people in need.
Our new Global Service Framework focuses the efforts of Lions and Leos clubs on five service areas with the goal of tripling
our humanitarian impact by serving 200 million people per year by 2021. It complements all of the great ways clubs serve
locally, and gives Lions and Leos new opportunities to help meet the growing challenges facing humanity. We are now
talking about the 5 pillars of service: Vision, Hunger, Environment, Diabetes, and Pediatric Cancer.
As you read the upcoming newsletters and attend the Midwinter Convention, watch for ideas to expand your club’s and
maybe even your personal opportunity to provide hands on service. Here’s one I’d like you to seriously consider:
On Monday, March 26 we (Lions, Lioness, Leos, friends, neighbors, relatives, etc.) will be coming together to
pack food at Feed My Starving Children. The Lions of Multi District (MD5M) will be packing food at the 3
locations of FMSC: Chanhassen, Coon Rapids and Eagan. The 5 shift times at each location are: 9:30 AM –
11:30 AM, 12 NOON – 2:00 PM, 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM, 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM, and 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM. With the
ability to choose the location you desire, I’d love to see our District fill as many shifts as possible. That would be
several hundred volunteers. I know that’s a lot, but by starting now, I really think we could do it. Watch for more in
the newsletter and via email about this great opportunity.
Stay tuned for more ideas about hands-on service, and specifics about the March 26 Feed My Starving Children event.

President’s Message Dear Club Leader,
Excellence isn't a destination. It's a journey. We are committed to excellence at all levels of Lions. As a club leader, you have an incredible opportunity to help transform your club into a stronger, more efficient team that can serve your community in more ways than ever before.
To realize your club's full potential, you will need to focus on creating a quality club experience for all members. The Club Quality Initiative makes it easy by taking you step-by-step through the process.
The Club Quality Initiative can help make your service more effective and your operations more efficient. It can help keep your members engaged in service and club life. That means you can better serve your community and your members. Plus, a quality club experience is closely linked to membership retention. It hurts much more to lose an existing member than it does to miss out on a new one.
And don't be afraid to try new things. Success can come from unexpected places and even the smallest changes can have a profound effect on your club. There's no time to waste! Together we can transform our clubs, our association and the world.
Sincerely,
Dr. Naresh Aggarwal
Your International President

Happy Holidays!
As we reflect on our achievements for the out going year, I would like you all to reflect on all the ways we as
Lions help families in our own communities. I am fortunate to live in a community where there are multiple
Lions Clubs who are very involved in the community. December is a very busy month for the Lions clubs in my
area.
In mid-December, the Cottage Grove Lions Club adopted 45 children in the community for Christmas. They
converged on Target in Cottage Grove, where they shopped for their children. The gifts are wrapped by the
Lions and then are distributed with help of the National Guard.
Also in mid-December, Cottage Grove Lions, New-Park Lions, St. Paul Park Newport Lions, and the Park
Port Lioness all help with raising money for the Holiday Train which directly benefits the Friends in Need
Food shelf (FIN) in their community. This year, with the help of the Lions, the Holiday Train exceeded
$100,000 in donations. FIN serves on average of 664 families per month (this equates to approximately
7,728 families per year). How extraordinary to see the impact we can have in our communities.
One last outreach event was Christmas Meal Boxes packed by the St. Paul Park New Port Lions. With help
from the St. Paul Park Fire Department and members of the Cottage Grove Lions, SPPNP Lions packed 107
Christmas Meal Boxes and distributed them to families in need the weekend of Christmas.
Once again, I urge all the Clubs in our district to reach out to their local food shelf to see how you can help
make an impact. Looking forward to seeing many of you at Mid-Winter Convention!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Yours in Service,
Lion Kelli Mickelson
