Texting and driving text messaging creates a crash risk 23 times worse than driving while not distracted.

Eleven percent of drivers aged 18 to 20 who were involved in an automobile accident and survived admitted they were sending or receiving texts when they crashed.

Currently there is no national ban on texting or using a wireless phone while driving, but a number of states have passed laws banning texting or wireless phones or requiring hands-free use of wireless phones while driving

Distracted driving endangers life and property and the current levels of injury and loss are unacceptable.

Percentages on distracted driving In 2010, distracted driving was a contributing factor in 104 collision fatalities in British Columbia. Also Driver distraction is a factor in about 4 million motor vehicle crashes in North America each year. Distracted drivers are 3 times more likely to be in a crash than attentive drivers (Alberta Transportation, 2011)

Deaths caused by texting and driving (yearly) In 2011 alone, over 3,000 people were killed in distracted driving crashes.The number of people killed in distraction-affected crashes decreased slightly from 3,360 in 2011 to 3,328 in 2012

What can be done to prevent distracted drivingOne step to prevent distracting driving is turning off your phone. In being a good driver you can be a good passenger, call out friend and even parents on mistakes they make.Also at&t have been creating commercials to show awareness and the consequences of distracted driving.
