Distance and Speed
Distance is the amount of space between two objects. The most common unit of distance is the meter
△d = d2 –d1
The change in distance is equal to the difference between the beginning distance (usually zero) and the finished distance.
Time – the duration between two events and usually is measure in seconds, minutes or hours
△t = t2-t1
The change in time is equal to the difference between the beginning time ( usually zero) and the finishing time
Speed- is a rate of motion V= speed V= △d/△t Speed is the ratio between the change in
distance and the change in time V = (d2-d1)/(t2-t1) Vav = △d/ △t Average speed takes into consideration
acceleration, constant speed and deceleration
Distance and time are two terms that are linked when we look at how fast we travel
We might walk at 6km/hr, drive at 100km/hr or ride a mountain bike downhill at 45km/hr◦ Ex Ian runs at 100m/10s or 10m/s
