Drilling Software | Sophisticated Yet Simple DISPLEX™ Completion Fluid Displacement Drilling mud displacement has become a critical step in the well construction process for high rate, high productivity wells. Pegasus Vertex, Inc. (PVI) has developed DISPLEX software to model the displacement hydraulics of completions fluids and to aid in the design of optimum mud displacement jobs. DISPLEX models the effects of various design parameters before the job is actually performed. Many potential problems can be identified before the pumping starts, and appropriate modifications can be made. DISPLEX can be used to optimize pump rates for maximum mud displacement efficiency by designing the highest allowable pump rates, without exceeding fracturing pressures. It predicts equivalent circulating densities (ECDs) at any location in the well at any specific time during the job, even during “freefall”, when the well is on vacuum and the surface pressure indication is zero.
