Suggestions for Project Display Boards

1. The standard presentation boards are self-standing and work quite well. Choose aneutral color such as black or white. The material may be foam board or

corrugated cardboard. Most office supply stores sell ready-made boards (Staples,Office Depot, Office Max, Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart). You could also make yourown board from a large cardboard box. PLEASE CHECK TO MAKE SURETHAT THE BOARD MEETS THE SIZE REQUIRMENTS LISTED IN THEINFORMATION PACKET.

2. Choose a catchy, attention-grabbing title that accurately summarizes your project. The title should be large enough to be read easily from across the room.

Ex: Your question might be, “Which bath soap cleans the best?” but yourtitle might be “Splish Splash, I Was Taking a Bath”

**Don’t forget that if you choose a catchy title, you still need to include thequestion (or problem) on your board so that the judges are clear about what you were investigating.**

3. Plan your board carefully. Make a small sketch of where everything will go. Laythe pieces out before you glue anything down so that you can move things aroundeasily. Remember that we will read your board like a newspaper, so organizeyour information from top to bottom, left to right.

4. Type and print out information so that it is neat and easy to read. Use a font size

that is large enough to be seen clearly from a few feet away. Proofread carefullyand remember to spell check before you glue anything down.

5. Use glue sticks or double-sided tape to attach your items to the board. Heavierpaper like cardstock will not wrinkle when you glue it down.

6. Use color construction paper to add accents to your board. You may place sheetsof construction paper behind your printed sheets of text.

7. DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ANYWHERE ON THE PROJECT BOARD, ORIN YOUR JOURNAL. You will be assigned a project number when you bring

the finished board to school. If you choose to use pictures, please make sure thatthe judges cannot see your face or any identifying information in the photos.(Smiley face stickers may be placed over your face, if necessary! )

8. Display your data carefully. Graphs, charts, tables, and other data should beclearly labeled, neat, colorful, and easy to understand. Make sure that yourgraphs reflect the kind of data you have collected:

*A line graph demonstrates change over time

*A bar/picture graph demonstrates comparison between two or morethings

*A circle/pie graph compares parts to the whole.

9. Sample lay-outs include:

**Optional (but a good idea!):

Significance —Why is this project important to you? Why might it be

important to others?

Research —You may want to include a short paragraph that describesbackground information on which you based your hypothesis

References —List books, magazines, Internet sites, etc. that were helpful toyou in your investigation
