UNPACKING & PHYSICAL INSPECTION

UNPACK

Open the box carefully. Remember the Overlay is glass. Prepare a surface which is clean and debris free to lay the overlay when you have removed it from the box.

Pick up the Overlay by the edges very carefully. There’s a small plastic black box which contains the controller attached to the Overlay. The controller box is attached to the glass by a cable. Be very careful handling this to avoid hitting the glass with the box or stretching or damage the cable.

Lay the Overlay on the already prepared surface and inspect for any signs of damage.

If there is any damage to the glass or the packaging please document with photographs and report to us at DISPLAX and to your carrier.

Retain the packaging in case you need to return the Overlay to DISPLAX at any point.

You are now ready to test the overlay.

PHYSICAL INSPECTION

Make sure that the black tape is on the edges of glass and that it is not peeled off.

Make sure that the black box is closed and has a security label on it

Make sure the glass is not broken, scratched or damaged in any way

Make sure that the black plastic frame around the active area is not damaged

If there are any signs of damage please take photographs and contact us. In all cases please quote the serial number printed on the black box

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

The Multitouch Overlay requires a WINDOWS 7 PC with multitouch support. There are versions of Windows 7 that don’t have multitouch support. Please to refer to Microsoft to ensure you have a version that does.

Video card with at least 1Gb of memory is recommended.

Intel Pentium 2.93GHZ or better

2Gb DDR2 or better

500Gb storage

INSTALLING AND TESTING THE OVERLAY

Make sure your version of Windows 7 supports multitouch

Make sure that the side of the overlay with the sensing technology is facing up towards the user

Connect the USB cable to the black box and to the PC. Make sure you’re using an USB 2.0

Connect the supplied power plug

Black box with controller

7

USB and power cables connected

Wait about one minute to ensure that Windows 7 recognizes the Overlay Multitouch as an HID device

Test it by touching the glass – it should be working by now and it should react to your finger touch

Please check your system properties (CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM AND SECURITY / SYSTEM) for the following information: “Pen and touch – touch input available with 4 touch points”

After this step you will only have one touch. You must restart your PC to have 4 simultaneous touches

In the DEVICE MANAGER you should see four additional USB INPUT DEVICE. If you select PROPERTIES (right click), on the DETAILS tab you should see the reference 202E

Test with Microsoft Paint to ensure you are getting multiple simultaneous touch points

INTEGRATING WITH YOUR HARDWARE

This document assumes the LCD has had the bezel removed and is prepared for fixing the overlay.

It also assumes the overlay has been fully tested and is operating correctly.

In windows 7 you can use an application like paint to check this in a similar way to we test in the video at

http://www.displax.com/scripts/download.php?i=164&k=742fc885017754cbb800

Once you have checked everything will fit together OK and that the overlay is functioning correctly you can mount the overlay using acrylic spacers and 3M VHB tape

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/VHB/

The diagram below shows suggested spacing.

Please note that we suggest the use of 5 mm thick and 10 mm wide acrylic spacers to ensure that there is an air gap of at least 5 mm between the overlay glass and the LCD. It is also important to allow gaps around the sides of the LCD display for air flow.

We also recommend that the use of cooling fans is considered in the design of the enclosure if it is to be completely enclosed.

Finally please test your assembly before sticking everything in place.

Different LCD’s emit different amounts of heat so please test the models you have chosen.

An LCD mounted horizontally will get hotter than one mounted vertically since the air will be trapped behind the glass and not flow up and away from the LCD as easily.

If an LCD goes above a temperature of about 46 to 50 degrees the screen will go black. Once it cools the display will recover and operate normally. This is avoided by ensuring adequate air flow across the front of the LCD.

14

Typical assembly using a rear-projection screen

In the case where the Overlay is to be used with rear projection or mounted vertically then it is necessary to provide suitable mechanical supports / brackets to hold the Overlay in place. We do not recommend VHB tape for such cases.
