Born in 1901 Chicago, Illinois
1906 family moved to a farm in Missouri, but ended up selling the farm and moving to Kansas City in 1911
1918 at the age 16, attempted to join army. Was rejected, underage
Instead he joined the Red Cross and went to France
1919 returned and moved back to Kansas City, begun his pursuit of a career as a newspaper artist.
