Field Trips {Students get first hand Information from experts through: i. experts educating the students, ii. students interviewing the experts, and iii. students taking up the role of medical experts and educating the people (i.e. patients, fellow students, staff and Nyanya Neighbourhoods) on the control of these diseases in our communities}

Visit to the School Clinic by the “School Health Promotion Group”. Students were educated on how to take good care of themselves, eat well and wisely, and avoid some of the diseases/
illnesses students always complain of as noted in the School Clinic Health Record Book.

Visit to Nyanya General Hospital by the “Foundation (Kanu Heart Foundation and Bill Gates & Meltida) Group”. Here students were properly educated on the endemic diseases in Nigeria by the HOD of the pediatric department. The HOD took the students round the units of the department.
Students also conducted interviews, took the monthly statistics of illnesses from the record book of the pediatric dept.

Visit to Federal Ministry of Health by the “Federal Ministry of Health (FMH) Group”. Here students were appropriately educated on the following endemic diseases by four different
experts: trachoma, onchocerciasis, and schistosomiasis.

Visit to the National Agency for the Control of AIDS by the “National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) Group”. Here students were accurately educated on HIV/AIDS by three different experts: Like any other group, the students also conducted interviews, took
pictures and video clips, etc.

Visit to the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research & Development, Idu by another “Governmental Agency (NIPRD) Group and the International Agency (UNICEF) Group”. Here
students were well educated and taken through the various stages of extraction on active principles from our local medicinal plants to the production of drugs (tablets & syrups) by
different experts (HODs and Staff) of various departments and units of the institution. These drugs are use in the treatment of different endemic diseases and NICOSAN for the treatment of Sickle Cell Anemia. The students also conducted interviews, took pictures and video clips, etc.

Visit to World Health Organization (United Nations House, Abuja) by the “World Health Organization (WHO) Group”. Here students were perfectly educated about WHO,
Surveillance, and on operational research by three different experts: The students also conducted series of interviews.

D. Awareness campaign and educating the rest of the school and the Nyanya community members

Visit to Nyanya Neighbourhood by the “Individual/ Family / Community Group and members of other groups”. Here students were able to discover some of the causes of the diseases in their communities: dirty environment, stagnant water, unhygienic condition of the place of bore holes and the containers use in selling water to the neighbourhood etc.
The students also conducted interviews to the community members.
