Policies and Procedures
Mission
The mission of the DISD K-12 Virtual School is to create a safe, positive environment
to empower, enable, and inspire life-long learners by providing a quality online education that allows them to reach their full potential as respectful and responsible citizens who will live and work in the global economy.
Program Description
The DISD K-12 Virtual School is an online academic program that utilizes Odysseyware courseware and teacher assistance from highly qualified teachers and an onsite virtual school director. Through this program, students are afforded access to fully accredited courses that fit students learning styles and paces. By monitoring student progress, teachers and coordinators ensure student mastery of content before continuing instruction.
Program Goals
● To provide a rigorous online curriculum to full virtual students. ● To provide access to online curriculum for credit accrual. ● To make certain students meet necessary requirements for graduation and
completion of coursework. ● To improve student motivation and personal responsibility through mentorship. ● To ensure student success with online curriculum by providing on site mentoring
and instruction. ● To provide daily support on regular school days during school hours.
Student Definitions
● Full Time – off site students enrolled with a fully online curriculum.*
● Part Time (grades 7-12 only) – students enrolled in off-site and on-site courses for a total of 7 courses.*
*To compete in OSSAA sanctioned programs for the 2020-2021 school year, students must attend at least one on-site course. DISD requires at least one of the on-site courses be the course associated with the OSSAA sanctioned program (i.e. athletics, band, etc.).

Attendance Policy
Students are expected to log into Odysseyware and complete all assignments posted for a specific school day, Monday through Friday. Daily assignment completion of 70% or more for each calendar school day will demonstrate the student being in attendance for that day. Assignment completions less than 70% on school days will result in the student being absent for that day. Students are required to meet with the program coordinator and/or teachers once a week, and are to maintain regular online progress. Required online progress is stated as 3% completion each week for two-semester courses and 6% completion each week for one-semester courses. Students may advance through course work faster, but are required to maintain minimum progress.
● Low activity or Inactivity - Students who fall behind in two-semester
courses by more than 6% or in one-semester courses by 12% or more, or who miss at least 2 weekly meetings with their teacher, or who cannot maintain 70% course grade may have the learning delivery method deemed inappropriate and a meeting between the student, guardian and a district academic team must occur to discuss future learning options.
