Discussion boards are an active form of learning in which students interact with each other and the material
Discussions foster critical thinking and in-depth discussions about varied topics
Discussions help create a community of learners
Students learn from each other as well as from the instructor
Why all the discussions?
Initial discussion posts should be at least 150 words in length
Refer to specific concepts from the learning material (Be sure to cite sources correctly)
Include personal stories, examples from the text, and references to weekly guidance
Be sure to answer ALL of the questions posed Do not include the questions in your post Posts should be in paragraph form with a new
paragraph for each new idea PROOFREAD posts for spelling and grammar!!
How should my initial post look?
Respond to at least two (or three) of your classmates’ posts
Give thought-provoking comments or questions that will further the discussion
Responses must go beyond “I agree” or “Good job”
Elaborate on main points, refer back to the readings, or provide personal examples
How should I write responses?
Read all assigned textbook chapters and weekly guidance
Think about the readings and the discussion questions before you begin writing
Post on time!! Be sure initial post is at least 150
words Proofread before you post! Respond to at least two
classmates’ posts
