It’s as easy as ...

Always start building with the smallest height frames at the base of the tower:

When erecting an even sized tower start with a 2-Rung Ladder Frame and

a 2-Rung Span Frame.

Climb the ladder and sit Through the Trap to fit guardrails on the 5th and 6th

rungs, in that order, on both sides of the platform. When the four guardrails are

in place you can now stand on the fully guardrailed platform. Continue to build

the tower to your required height whilst

employing the 3T Method at all times.

Working Safely at Height

WHAT IS THE 3T METHOD?

Thenew3TMethodminimisesoperatorriskduringtowererectionanddismantling.Byusinganadditional2-RungLadderFrameatthebaseofthetowerandlocatingguardrailsinadvanceofclimbingontoaplatformyoucanreducetheriskofafall.

Theoperatorcansitsafelywithinthetrapdoorofeachplatformwhilstaddingorremovingguardrailsonthelevelabovetheplatform.ThereisnownorequirementtostandonanunguardedplatformofanyHSShiredaluminiumtower.

WHY HAVE WE INTRODUCED IT?

Wehaveintroducedthe3TMethodtohelpcustomerscomplywiththenew2005WorkatHeightRegulations,tomeetmanufacturersrecommendationsandtoensurethatwecanofferthesafestrangeofequipmentavailabletothemarket.

In2004/200553peoplediedandnearly3800sufferedaseriousinjuryasaresultofafallfromheightintheworkplace.Fallsfromheightarethemostcommoncauseoffatalinjuryandthesecondmostcommoncauseofmajorinjurytoemployees,accountingforaround15%ofallsuchinjuries.Mostofthedeathsandinjuriessufferedcouldhavebeenpreventedifsuitable,sensiblemeasureshadbeenputinplace.

InSeptember2005aroofingcontractorpleadedguiltytobreachesoftheWorkatHeightRegulations2005andwasfinedatotalof£3,000pluscostsof£3,517.TheRegulationsallowpeoplewhodonotworksafelytobeprosecuted-evenwhennoinjuriesresult!

The3T(ThroughtheTrap)MethodisanapprovedmethodoferectionrecommendedbyPASMAanddevelopedinco-operationwiththeHealthandSafetyExecutivetoensurecompliancewiththeWorkingatHeightRegulations.

NOTE: Only climb a tower from the inside. Do not climb onto the platform until fully guardrailed.

Ensure stabilisers are fitted. Fit a fixed deck on the lowest rung. Stand on the

fixed deck and fit a trapdoor deck on the 4th rung (2m) with the trapdoor next
