ADDED USABILITY: LED RING All installation modules feature an LED ring which uses special circuitry to operate off standard phantom power. Two separate leads carry the supply voltage and provide extra shielding to the audio signal. The LED ring has the following modes:

System standby: In this factory default mode the LED ring glows dimly to indicate that the system has been wired correctly and phantom power is on. The operator will know at a glance whether the hardware has been installed correctly. There is no need to test each microphone.

Mic On: When powered from an external supply in combination with the phantom power adapter, the PAE5 M or in combination with the AKG conference system, the LED ring can be configured so that it will only light brightly when the microphone is on.

Off: If none of the above functions is desired, the LED ring can be deactivated. In this mode it is practically invisible.

BOOST THE VALUE OF YOUR INSTALLATION

ADDED VISIBILITY: LED ENLARGER In the Mic On mode it is sometimes necessary that the LED can be seen clearly from all parts of the room. As the integrated LED is fairly discreet, a special tool is needed to make this happen. Therefore, all gooseneck modules include an additional LED enlarger as a standard accessory. This little plastic ring slips over the LED windows to enhance the visibility of the light signal.

ADDED MODULARITY: INTERFACE MODULES This ingenious interface between gooseneck module and phantom power adapter adds flexibility to all mounting modules and helps save costs in stock-keeping. The self-cleaning connector is absolutely reliable, inconspicuous and safe. In case of a change in application requirements, it is a valuable tool. If you need to add an On/Off-button there is no need to buy a completely new microphone – just change the phantom power adapter.

ADDED RELIABILITY: GOOSENECK MODULES A high-quality gooseneck bends precisely into the desired shape and is resistant to inadvertent readjustment. This stability of shape depends entirely on consistent resilience of the springs inside the gooseneck. Therefore all Discreet Acoustics Modular Plus Series Gooseneck Modules are subjected to a rigorous quality test during which they are bent into extreme shapes which they must keep until bent again. Any gooseneck that does not pass this test is rejected.

ADDED QUALITY: CAPSULE CONTACTS The size of the contact area between the microphone capsule and the gooseneck is of crucial importance for the reliability of the entire installation. Instead of failure-prone conventional point contacts, all Discreet Acoustics Modular Plus Series products use large, self-cleaning gold-plated contacts that engage in groove-and-tongue fashion. In addition, a hard, rugged thread stabilizes the joint. The extremely deep groove of the thread prevents misalignment and ensures a long useful life for all Discreet Acoustics Modular Series products even if they are used in installations that are frequently reconfigured, or in mobile systems.

ADDED INGENUITY: ESP MODULE The unique ESP phantom power module comes with a microprocessor, allowing the module to be programmed to a wide range of operating modes. A rotary switch recalls several preset functions easily. Thus the installer can, for example, activate a 200Hz bass roll-off if needed or set the LED ring to ON/OFF mode on the fly. Since the switch is hidden safely inside the adapter’s case it cannot be realigned unintentionally. The table below shows all available operating modes.

ADDED INTELLIGIBILITY: CAPSULE MODULES AKG has specialized in building microphone capsules for more than six decades. One of the most sophisticated AKG capsule technologies – the so-called staple capsule – is used in the legendary C747. For many years this microphone has been used in recording studios, theaters, churches and broadcast stations and became an industry standard in the conference market. This capsule technology allows an outstanding fine-tuning process during manufacturing, resulting in very tight tolerances and extraordinarily accurate frequency response. The result is always audio at its best!

This enhanced version of the C747 features gold plated contacts (1), direct contact between capsule and PCB (3), and a special plastic coating (2) for better signal transmission and low sensitivity to humidity. A special integrated RFi-Shield from the powering module to the metal dust screen (4) protects the microphone efficiently against electromagnetic interference (e.g. from mobile phones).

With its wide voltage range the module will fit most available microphone mixers. It comes with a unique BCD (binary coded decimal) switch to recall one of the operating modes. MF M The MF M is a flush-mount module that efficiently reduces body noise from tables. Its slim design can integrate each powering module of the Modular Plus Series and allows the microphones to be detached when not in use. A special blind cap seals the connector outlet, leaving an attractive flush interface in the table and simultaneously sealing the connector to protect it against dust. The MF M requires a mounting hole of 50mm (2in).

UWA9 M The UWA9 M is a holder for wireless body-pack transmitters. It fits perfectly on the GN155 M floor stand gooseneck module. VIDEO CONFERENCE In videoconferencing, unobtrusiveness of the sound system is a major issue. The Modular Plus Series GN15 M module perfectly fulfills this key requirement. PRESS CONFERENCE Whenever quick setup and takedown is needed a mobile sound system is required. The PAESP M powering module is probably the world’s smallest available discussion system. It can easily be programmed to different operating modes and offers an easy-to-use, noiseless microphone switch. The cardioid polar pattern of the CK41 cancels out unwanted noise from the audience while the ST45 provides a firm, stable stand. Five minutes after the show, all components are stored and the table is wiped clean.

LECTERN The 50cm-long GN50 M gooseneck module is the perfect choice for standing speakers, e.g. placed in front of a lectern. In combination with the extremely directional CK49 it is a great solution for inexperienced and agile presenters. A H500 is the optimum mounting accessory as it will easily support the long gooseneck microphone while offering optimum suppression of any structure-borne noise. If you like to use two microphones on one lectern, please do not forget to connect it to an automatic mixer (e.g. a digital DMM) in order to get rid of comb filter effects and to reduce feedback.

THEATER A hanging microphone installation is a good choice for applications where the microphones should not be seen and still should pick up the ambient sound. The HM1000 M offers a twist-free cable and ensures that the microphone stays in place. The light ring offers information on the system status even from a distance. A supercardioid polar pattern helps it to focus on the sound from the stage and reduce the pickup of noise from the audience. If more focus is needed, the capsule can easily be exchanged with the CK49 shotgun. To reduce the number of open microphones the use of an automatic microphone mixer is recommended.

WIRELESS PRESENTATION Where it´s not possible to install cables, a wireless microphone system does a great job. Unfortunately, in the past most of these microphones needed to be hand-held or worn close to the body. The Modular Plus Series GN155 M in combination with a body-pack transmitter offers the best of both worlds. Hands-free, no effort in mounting lavaliere or head-worn mics, and a discreet optical approach. The floor stand mic can be set up and removed in the blink of an eye and is a truly unique solution equaled by no other. (This combination does not work with AKG DMS70.)
