Term 6 Adventures

Well we have made it to the end of term and what a term it has been! This term has seen our dancers performing at the opening of The West of Eng-land Sports Games, our gymnasts competing in the finals of the schools gym competition, KS2 performing in the magnificent Jungle Book, our foot-ball team winning their last game 11-0 and Year 6 have been on camp. It’s a wonder we’re still standing! We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued sup-port of the school. It has been a very busy but memorable year. We wish you all a wonderful fun filled summer.

Nursery Nursery have had an exciting term following the adventures of Supertato, linked to the topic Our heroes. They made their own Supertatos using re-al potatoes but then the Evil Pea froze them. Mwah ha ha ha how were they going to set them free?! The children investigated - let's smash them like Hulk Smash, let's get a hammer and hammer them out, let's put hot water on them. The children tried all the ways and eventually set their heroes free. They have had fun smashing peas and cooking peas on the camp fire at Forest school too. The last couple of weeks the children have made cookies, cup cakes and bread rolls to sell. The money raised went towards buying their own end of year party food. Their first experience of being entrepreneurs! It has been busy but fun espe-cially as the sun has shone and we've been out-side lots enjoying water and sand play. The staff in Nursery wish all the children and their fami-lies a wonderful summer.

Dragonflies This term we have learnt about “Our Heroes”. The children have learned all about important public services like the police and fire fighters. They learned and developed a story called “Supertato”. a mighty potato who saves his vegetable friends from all the mis-chievous antics of “Evil Pea”. Evil Pea is so bad he came to school and messed up our classroom. The children had to design and cre-ate ingenious traps to stop him. They really enjoyed cre-ating and writing about their own su-per vegetable.

The children

have also

been wowing

the teachers with their amazing

maths. They have been getting to grips

with bigger numbers and learning to

count in 5s and 10s. Countdown

awaits!

The class should be very proud of all

their achievements this year. We wish

you good luck in Year 1 and hope you

have a lovely summer holiday!

Hazel Class

Our topic this term has been The Enchanted Forest. We started by planting our own seeds and have completed lots of investigations to find out what plants needs to stay strong and healthy. In Literacy, we enjoyed writing a new ending for the story Wild written by Emily Hughes and then wrote a biography of the author Dick King Smith, who loved nature and animals very much. In Maths, we have learnt about money and time, so we can get to the shops while they're still open and use the correct coins to pay! We had a fantastic time on our KS1 Sports Day and particularly en-joyed the fancy dress race. We were also very thankful for our visit from the Munching Caterpillars team, who taught us all about moths, butterflies and caterpillars. They also helped us to plant seedlings that will grow into flowers that attract and nurture butter-flies and moths that live in the area. In Art, we looked at the work of Andy Goldsworthy and imitated some of his techniques to create our own natural masterpieces. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Year 1 this year. They have shown themselves to be an incredibly hard-working and caring team of children. I wish them the very best of luck as they continue their journey at Stoke Park Primary School!

Cedar Class

This term Cedar Class have been learning all about growing. We planted our own sunflowers and sent them home to grow in the sunshine.

In Literacy we enjoyed the story ‘Wild’ by Emily Hughes and dis-covered that there was our very own wild girl living in Stoke Park Woods!

In Science we found out about butterflies and moths with a visit from ‘Munching Caterpillars’ and now we are experts at telling them apart.

It has been an exciting year in Cedar Class and together we have all grown into brilliant writers, readers and mathematicians. I hope that everyone has a fun summer and a great start to Year 3.

Farewells Unfortunately we are saying goodbye to a few mem-bers of staff this term. Miss Daniels is moving on to be a class teacher at an-other primary school and Miss Jones is off to train to

become a secondary maths teacher. Both have been much loved members of staff at the school and will be greatly missed by us all. We’d like to wish them luck on their next venture. We are also saying goodbye to Mr Simons after being our head teacher for the last 12 years. Mr Simons

has been instrumental to Stoke Parks success over the years. His determination to give the children the very best education and provide them with opportunities to shine and develop their talents has been inspiring to us all. Stoke Park Primary is a great place to be and we owe him a great deal of thanks for that. Good luck at your new school Mr Simons, they are lucky to have you! We would also like to say a fond farewell to our Year 6’s. It has been a pleasure watching you grow and learn over the years and we have every faith that you will continue to shine as you continue your jour-ney in to secondary school. We hope you feel proud of all that you have achieved during your time at the school.

Elm Class

What a super final term in Year 3, it has certainly been busy! In literacy we have been learning all about play scripts and poetry. The children have written their own play script based on the story of Goram and Gyston The Bristol Giants as well as becoming rap masters. In mathematics we have learnt all about angles, measure and capacity. We have also been lucky with lots of extra experiences to enhance our learning this term. The children became bakers and made their own yummy bread by mixing the dough and modelling a shape. We had an amazing trip to Cheddar Gorge Caves and the children tack-led climbing Jacob’s Ladder and up the viewing tower which was a great achievement for all. Thank you for a fantastic year Elm Class, I have really enjoyed seeing you all grow and conquer new challenges. As well as lots of learning we have had so much fun and laughter together and I will miss you all! From Miss Daniels

Birch Class

It has been yet another

fantastic term for Birch

class.

We have done some in-

credibly exciting things this

term including learning all

about our own city Bristol.

The children created their

own play scripts based on the Bristol Giants story book and even

received a personal video from the author himself Oliver Rigby.

We also took part in a year 4 sports day where we competed

against Headley Park and Cathedral Primary. The children demon-

strated fantastic team spirit and supported each other as well as

the other schools with enthusiasm and I was so impressed by their

outstanding behaviour.

We also had a great day at our Cheddar Gorge trip where we ex-

plored the caves and walked up Jacob’s ladder.

I would like to say a huge well done and thankyou to everyone in

Birch class for working so hard this year and making my last two

years so memo-

rable. I wish you

all the best of

luck in year 5- I

will miss you all!

Football This term our Year 5/6 football team took part in a football match against Filton Avenue. The game was part of an event organized by Bristol Rovers Community Trust and Avon and Somerset Police. Our team played brilliantly as a team and this, combined with their great skill on the pitch, led them to an 11-0 victory. A great achievement.

Gym In term 5, the gymnasts took part in a Schools Gymnastics Competi-tion at St Bede’s School where we finished with 3 golds and a bronze medal. As a result of this success, they made it through to The Summer Games Final at Combe Dingle Sports Complex which took place this term. They once again performed with skill and con-fidence and we finished with 2 3rd places and one 6th place. A re-markable achievement. This was our first year taking three qualify-ing teams to the West of England finals and for some children their first time com-peting ever! Special mention to Evie Butt who scored 9.9 on her floor routine making a near perfect score.

Dance During our dance performance at The Stages Gala in Term 5, the children were spotted by the organizer of the West of England School Games and asked to perform at the opening ceremony of this years games. It was a huge honour to be selected and the chil-dren were thrilled to have been ‘spotted’. The event took place at The University of Bristol’s Combe Dingle Sports Complex and the children once again put on a moving performance of their stages dance. This years dance was a new genre for the children but they proved that their talent is transferable to all genres and expressed them-selves beautifully.

Oak Class

What another fantastic, exciting term Year 5 have just had. This term for topic we have explored Bristol. We have researched Pi-rates, including the infamous Blackbeard and created our own Bristol Pirate and perfect Pirate day out. In literacy, we've written our own classical fiction stories full of adventure! And for maths it has been decimal and percent-ages crazy, as well as learning all about coordinates, position and di-rection. Overall, Year 5 have once again been fantastic, their perse-verance and determination has impressed and inspired me dai-ly. Thank you for all your hard work. A poem I think you’re very special, And I just wanted you to know, These two years have been amazing, I’m so sad to see you go! We’ve done so much together, We’ve laughed and smiled and learned. After such an exciting journey, Enjoy the summer break you’ve earned. Remember to come and visit, I would love to see you grow, You have a lot to learn ahead, But there is one thing you should know: The thing that makes you wonderful, And will shine through all you do, Is just to be yourself and be proud that you are you.

Chestnut Class

Since September, Year 6 have been on what can only be described as a rollercoaster of events! From preparing for their SATs tests and the writing deadline for the Local Authority moderation, to facing their fears in a number of activities on camp, they have certainly matured and learnt a vast amount along the way. Through their ex-periences, they have developed their abilities to persevere when tasks have proved challenging, supported others by celebrating their success and most importantly learnt that they can achieve an-ything they put their minds to! A range of topics have been ex-plored from the Greeks, Bristol and World War 2 where we had our governor Bill share his memories of war as a child. As well as this in-school visit, they have been very fortunate to have gone on a varie-ty of trips: The Lifeskills Centre, The Memorial Stadium for Remem-brance Day and their unforgettable residential to Kilve Court too!

We have been on an incredible journey as a class this year and we have thoroughly enjoyed seeing their success in their SATs. We are now confident that they are ready to spread their wings and take on the future challenges that secondary school has to offer - Good luck Year 6! Mrs Hudd, Miss Simmonds and Mr Gibbs.

Drama

This term saw Key Stage 2 take to the stage to put on an outstand-ing performance of Jungle Book. We feel like we say this each year but it really was the best yet. The children performed with confi-dence, enthusiasm and humour. The scenery was captivating and the show was enjoyed by all ages. It astounds us each year how the children learn all their lines and perform so confidently. This year saw 4 children singing solos—an incredibly brave thing to do. A special thank you must go to Miss Cook whose talent and wisdom on the stage has helped to develop so much talent at Stoke Park. Each year she sets the standard even higher! We’re already looking forward to next years. Also a big thank you to Mrs Spence and Mrs Hay for all their hard work helping the children put together the scenery and costumes.
