is one of the first designated

Coral observation on Glass-Bottomed

marine parks in Hong Kong. The establishment of the

Marine Life Centre in the park provides opportunities to

appreciate the ocean and understand our priceless

marine resources, as well as an ideal place to enhance

students’ learning experiences. Through interesting

activities, students can enhance their understanding of

marine ecosystems and conservation issues, such as,

marine litter and marine protected areas.

Through a first-hand investigation of marine litter in Nam Fung Wan, students can see

how habitats are being affected by marine litter, discover the common types of marine

litter, and their impact on marine life.

The glass-bottomed boat trip allows students a closer look of the coral communities

inside the marine park. After a sharing session on coral biology, students will learn the

importance of corals and appreciate the wonder of nature.

Ocean Ambassador

Challenge

Student can set their own ocean friendly practice challenge, e.g. reducing their shower

time and choose reusable water bottle etc. and share their experience with peers after

the challenge.

‘A Plastic Ocean’ is an award-winning documentary produced by A Plastic Ocean

Foundation, exploring the fragile state of our oceans. It exposes alarming truths about

the consequences of our disposable lifestyle.

Student will:

1. Experience the work of an oceanographer to investigate the seawater properties and its relationship with organisms;

2. Understand the importance of the ocean and understand how human activities affect marine biodiversity;

3. Discover their relationship with the ocean and appreciate the wonders of nature; and

4. Realise the importance of leading a sustainable lifestyle and adopt ocean-friendly practices.

students’ learning experiences. Through interesting

activities, students can enhance their understanding of

marine ecosystems and conservation issues, such as,

Students gain hands-on experience in using scientific equipment to measure seawater

and atmospheric parameters, and collect their own plankton samples to discover how

environmental factors affect marine life and their distribution.

The glass-bottomed boat trip allows students to have a closer look of the coral

Investigate some commonly found marine litter and self-learn about the source

of marine litter and their ocean journey.

Micro marine

litter survey Collect micro marine litter and observe under the microscope to learn about the

types of micro marine litter commonly found in Hong Kong waters.

To discover the source of marine litter, how it affects the environment and public health, and actions

we can take to reduce marine litter through surveys.

Students will:

1. Appreciate the wonder of nature in a unique local nature reserve; 2. Discover their relationship with wetland and its wildlife; 3. Realise the need to adopt a sustainable lifestyle in order to protect our biodiversity.

Wonder of Wetland

Habitats

Led by WWF education officers, students walk

through the most diverse wetland habitats in

Hong Kong, including the Gei Wai, fish ponds,

freshwater pond, reedbed and mangrove.

Conservation

Field Work

Wetlands around the world, including Mai Po

face many threats. Students will be given a

chance to help in our field work in outdoor

habitats to contribute to the habitat management

and conservation work in the reserve.

Conduct wildlife survey and

observation and investigate

wetland biodiversity and

habitats.

“Bird Paradise,” Mai Po Nature Reserve has been

managed by WWF-Hong Kong since 1983. With its high

diversity of wetland habitats, the reserve is an important

habitat and staging site for over 60,000 waterbirds in

winter and other wildlife. In 1995, the reserve and the

Inner Deep Bay wetlands were recognised as a Wetland

of International Importance under the Ramsar

Convention. Visitors to Mai Po can experience nature

first-hand, enriching their knowledge of Hong Kong’s

natural environment and sustainable development.
