DISCOVER JENA ON FOOT

START YOUR walk as close to the hour as possible on the MARKET SQUARE(statue of the university founder Elector Johann Friedrich I etc.) in timeto watch "Snatching Hans" on the clocktower of the historical town hall.(15 mins.)

TIP > Discover the seven wonders of Jena in the MUNICIPAL MUSEUM .Marvel at the timbered room in the Stadtspeicher – one of the oldest houseson the market square – which is now fronted with a striking glass facade.

DISCOVER the original bronze plate for Martin Luther's grave featuring abible and a Lutheran rose in the late-Gothic CHURCH OF ST. MICHAEL .Luther preached at the church during his stay in Jena. (15 mins.)> May – Oct Mon 12.30 pm to 5 pm, Tue-Sat 10 am to 5 pm

TIP > Organ recitals at 8 pm on Wednesdays and church guided tours on3 pm on Thursdays from May to October.

ENJOY breathtaking views over Jena from the observation platform on JEN-TOWER which emerges beyond the last remaining section of the townfortifications. (30 mins.) > Daily 11 am to midnightSee ST. JOHN'S GATE and the POWDER TOWER along the way.

TIP> Dine above the clouds in the tower restaurant, sample hand-made Jenachocolates in the café opposite, then head around the corner to Wagnergassefor a range of pubs and bars.

Enjoy a dose of culture at the famous VOLKSHAUS , where Jena'sPhilharmonic Orchestra regularly performs in concert.
