The KICSITThe KICSIT



Dr. A. Q. Khan Institute of Computer Sciences and Information Technology (KICSIT),

Kahuta was inaugurated in November 2000 by Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, the founder and

then Chairman of KRL.

Initially, KICSIT offered Bachelor of Computer Science (BSCS) program in affiliation

with Gomal University, D I Khan. Later in 2001, 4-year Bachelor of Engineering in

Information Technology (BEIT) programme was started in affiliation with University

of Engineering and Technology (UET), Taxila. Since Spring 2013 BEIT has been

converted into BSIT (Bachelor of Science in Information Technology) which is

approved by National Computing Education Accreditations Council (NCEAC), along

with BSIT, program of Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCE) is also

being started from Fall 2014 with the approval of PEC, Both of these programs, BSIT

and BSCE are run in affiliation with UET Taxila.

KICSIT is ideally located in an exclusively peaceful and secure environment. On one hand, it is free from the

maddening crowd of the present-day cities and, on the other hand, it is accessible from the twin cities of Rawalpindi-

Islamabad at an easy drive of about 50 minutes . At present, KICSIT is housed in its own purposefully built fully air

conditioned campus. It has furnished class rooms with audio-visual teaching aids, well equipped computer and

electronics labs and library. KICSIT also operates a book-bank having over 4000 copies of books used as text books

for offered courses. Broad-band internet connectivity is available at all computers of the Institute. KICSIT provides

transport to its students and faculty traveling from twin cities and Kahuta surroundings at a subsidized rate.

In view of its increasing students strength and scope, steps have been taken to facilitate KICSIT with state of the art

paraphernalia. The full-fledged campus of KICSIT is under construction in the midst of lush green and scenic hills of

Kahuta, stretched over an area of 108 kanals. Academic and administration blocks have been constructed at the

outskirts of KRL premises on main Rawalpindi-Kahuta Road. Addition of these blocks will help in KICSIT’s

extension and facilitate teaching and extra curricular activities.

The Institute can rightly boast of having an elite faculty with foreign qualified PhDs and Master degree holders having

decades of practical industrial experience. Another distinguished feature of KICSIT is its discipline which helps the

students to concentrate on their studies and participate in healthy activities alone.

The bottom line approach of KICSIT is, perfection and professionalism.

BSCE:The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCE) Degree program.

The programs are affiliated with University of Engineering & Technology, Taxila and spread over four academic

years. Each academic year consists of two regular teaching semesters i.e. Fall and Spring semesters.

Spring Semester: February to JuneFall Semester: August to January

Each semester comprises of sixteen weeks of teaching. Mid Semester Examination are held after eighth week. The

seventeenth week shall be of preparatory holidays for End Semester Examination which shall be held in the eighteen

week.

The medium of instruction at KICSIT is English except for Islamic Studies.

Working Days: Monday to FridayTimings: 12:30 pm to 7:00 pm Monday to Thursday

12.00 noon to 5.30 pm Friday.

These timings may change as per requirement of the Institute. Each semester is followed by a few weeks inter-

semester break for the preparation of semester results and for students to recreate and prepare for next semester.

Affiliation:KICSIT is affiliated with University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila. All admissions to KICSIT

are subject to UET’s approval, these are finalized by issuance of Registration Numbers from University.

A candidate seeking admission in BSIT Program should

fulfill the following requirements:

F.Sc. Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, Intermediate with

Computer Science with minimum of 50% aggregate marks,

OR

A-Level with Mathematics, Securing minimum of 50%

aggregate marks.

OR

Diploma of Associate Engineering in IT/Computer Technology

with 60% aggregate marks.

Applicants will be treated in the following five admission

categories.

· Category-A F.Sc. Pre-Engineering .

· Category-B Pre-Medical

· Category-C Intermediate with Computer Science.

· Category-D A-Level with Mathematics .

· Category-E Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE)

in IT/ Computer Technology .

A candidate seeking admission in BSCE Programme shouldfulfill the following requirements:

F.Sc. Pre-Engineering with 60% marks with Mathematics,Physics and Chemistry from a board of Intermediate and Secondary Education of Pakistan or an equivalent examinationrecognized by the University. OR F.Sc with 60% marks with Mathematics, Physics andComputer Science as a major subject will also be eligible.ORDiploma of Associate Engineering Examination in ComputerTechnology with 60% aggregate marks.

Applicants will be treated in the following three admission

An Admission form is provided in this prospectus. Duly filled form should be sent to the Admission Office KICSITwithin stipulated time period as advertised in newspapers, at website and in national media. Attested copies of certificates of Secondary School Examination, Higher Secondary School Examination and other required documents are to be attachedwith admission form.

The admission is held once a year in Fall Semester. The maximum number of seats available for admissions in BSCEprogram is 40.

The admissions are held twice a year in Spring and Fall Semesters. The maximum number of seats available foradmissions in BSIT program is 60.

2.3. Admission Procedure for BS(IT) & BS(CE)

1. The candidate will apply on the prescribed application form provided in Prospectus or on the website www.kicsit.edu.pk.

2. Candidates who have taken the NAT-I test and have scored (valid by the deadline give in the advertisement) should provide the result. Those who want to take NAT-I test specifically arranged for KICSIT should registered themselves by paying NTS registration charges. They will be called for NTS Customized Test by KICSIT Venue. The merit will be computed according to the following procedure:

a. NTS National Aptitude Test NAT-I score.b. NAT-I Test is from HSSC Syllabus. Whereas NAT-IE for Pre-Engineering or A-Level with

Mathematics, NAT-IM for Pre-Medical, NAT-ICS for Intermediate with Computer Science and DAE in Computer or IT.

c. Merit = HSSC/ DAE Marks (70%) + NAT Marks (30%).

3. Institute reserves the right to reject the admission of any candidate.

4. The admissions are offered through open merit and list of selected candidates displayed on

KICSIT website and on KICSIT notice board.

4.1 Fee Categories

Category 1: Children of KRL employees

Category 2: Children of SPDs` controlled Strategic Organization Employees.

Namely, these Organizations are: SPD, PAEC, NESCOM, SUPARCO, DESTO. A bonafide

certificate from employee organization is required.

Category 3: Others than the above (General Public)

Applicant is required to mention fee category on the admission form.

4.4. Refund Policy

If an enrolled or newly admitted student leaves the institute and requests in writing to withdraw his/her dues, the same will be refunded except the admission fee, as follows:

4.4.1. Refund of 1st Semester

(a) 95% refund before the start of classes as announced by the Institute.

(b) 75% refund within one week (7 days) of start of classes.

(c) 50% refund within two weeks (14 days) of start of classes.

(d) 25% refund within three weeks (21 days) of start of classes.

(e) No refund after three weeks (21 days) of start of classes.

(f) Full refund of library and lab securities, if no damage amount stands against him/her.

4.4.2. Refund for Subsequent Semester Students

If a student discontinues his/her studies prior to mid semester examination in the semester other than the first for some genuine reason(s), then he/she can resume studies in the following semester, repeating the discontinued semester without paying any additional charges. In case of discontinuity after mid semester exams, the semester fees will be charged for the repeat of same or left out semesters. For discontinuity student has to obtain permission in writing and this ought to be notified for KICSIT internal records.

4.5. Scholarships Merit and Need Based Scholarships are provided to the students of KICSIT.

4.5.1. Merit Scholarships for Students of 1st Semester

On the basis of admission test merit list, including the previous career and marks in the NTS (NAT) Test (having 70% or above marks), the top three students will be awarded a scholarship of Rs. 10000.00 for the semester.

4.5.2. Merit Scholarships for Students of 2nd to 8th Semesters

The top three positions holders in the University End Semester Examination will be awarded respectively 100%, 75% and 50% tuition fee waivers. These positions will be worked on the basis of Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA), of the previous semester. In case two or more students obtain the same SGPA, then the percentages of their obtained marks in previous semester will be considered to decide their position.

Eligibility Criteria for Need Based Scholarship

?The applicant should be student of 2nd to 8th semesters.

?The applicant should have obtained SGPA of 3.00 or above.

?The applicant should be paying Non-KRL and Non-SPD fees.

?The applicant should submit application form at the start of the semester along with all relevant documents

?Total number of scholarships should not exceed 5% of the enrolled students for that semester.

?Scholarships will be awarded for only one semester but can be re-availed in subsequent semesters, if the need prevails and the student will have to put up fresh application.

?In case, applicant is also eligible for KICSIT merit scholarships then he/she can choose either merit scholarship or need-base scholarship. Only one scholarship is allowed at a time.

?Decision for the award of scholarships and amounts will be made on case to case basis which will be decided by Scholarship Award Committee.

4.5.3. Need Based Scholarships

KICSIT will provide financial support to talented needy students in the form of concession in Fees, Funds and Scholarships. The package will comprise of

5.1 Important Definitions

5.1.1 Credit Hours

The rating allotted to a course will be equal to the number of theory lecture hours per week, together with the number of three-hour laboratory work sessions per week, wherever applicable.

5.1.2 Contact Hours

The total number of faculty-student contact hours for lectures, tutorials and laboratory work per week.

5.1.3 Grade

The letter grade earned by student in a course depending on his/her performance.

5.1.4. Grade Points

The grade points are the numerical values associated with each letter grade.

5.1.5. Study Period:

The minimum duration of the degree programme shall be four academic years( i.e. Eight Regular Semesters). While the maximum duration allowed is Seven years(i.e. Fourteen Regular Semesters).

5.1.6. Semester Grade Points Average (SGPA)

The semester grade point average (SGPA) shall be calculated by multiplying the grade points earned in a course with the number of credit hours of that course, taking the sum of such products for each course taken in that semester and finally dividing the result by the total number of credit hours attempted in that semester.

5.1.7. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

The cumulative GPA (CGPA) shall be calculated using the same formula as for SGPA for all the courses taken in all the semesters of the degree programme

5.1.8. Degree Requirements

The requirement to earn a degree in respective program shall be

1. To get pass grades in all courses offered in a semester with GPA of 2.00 or more, and

2. To pass all the semesters of the degree program.

3. In the final year, students shall be required to complete a degree project which is assigned 06 credit hours. Students shall be required to submit project report (in a hard-bound form) working software application or hardware, followed by open presentation and demonstration in the final examination of their last semester. A committee nominated by the Director and approved by Vice Chancellor including the project supervisor as a member, if possible, shall evaluate these projects.

5.2 Academic Deficiencies

A student, who obtains one or more of the following in a semester result, shall be considered academically deficient:

i) One or more “F” grades in a semester.

ii) One or more “I” grades in a semester.stiii) SGPA less than 1.00 at the end of 1 semester.

a) Academic Dismissalst

A student who fails to maintain a minimum GPA of 1.0 at the end of 1 semester of a degree ndprogramme shall be placed on academic probation for the 2 semester. In case, he fails to improve his

n CGPA to 1.0 at the end of 2 semester, his name shall be removed from the Rolls of the Institute. Students dismissed on academic grounds shall, however, be furnished with an official transcript indicating the courses completed along with grades earned in registered courses.

b) Re-admission

Re-admission in the first year, without going through the admission process, is granted to only those undergraduate students who have been dismissed on academic grounds but only once. There is no second re-admission.

c) Relegation to Lower Semester

An academically deficient student can apply to the Director KICSIT for Willing Relegation to the lower semester to overcome his academic deficiencies. The Director KICSIT will decide and forwarded the case to Controller of Examinations for subsequent notification. Willing Relegation to lower semester can only be availed once during the entire degree programme subject to written consent of the parents / guardians.

5.2.2 Incomplete (I) Grade

A student may request for the award of an 'I' (Incomplete) grade, if for some genuine reasons (beyond his control), he fails to appear in an end semester examination or final project. 'I' grade will not be awarded for any other deficiency in a course (for example, shortage in attendance etc). For the award of an 'I' grade, the student will apply to the Director KICSIT. In case the student is allowed an 'I' grade in a course by the Director KICSIT who will give its recommendations based on genuineness of case and on the basis of his performance. The Student would be allowed to take only the End Semester Examination of that course on payment of prescribed fee. The 'I' grade must be completed before the commencement of the forthcoming End Semester Examination, failing which the 'I' grade will automatically be converted to 'F' Grade.




5.2.3. Repeating Courses / Improving Grades

a) If a student obtains 'F' Grade in any course, he shall have to repeat that or an equivalent course.

Similarly whenever a student obtains a grade 'D', he can repeat that course to improve his grade. A

student shall be allowed to repeat a maximum of six courses to improve the grades during the entire

degree programme.

b) An academically deficient regular student will be allowed to repeat / improve maximum of two

courses during a semester whenever the teaching and examination schedule makes it possible for

him to register himself for the courses, attend the classes and to take the Mid and End Semester

Examinations. While the academically deficient casual student shall be allowed to repeat / improve

five (05) courses whenever the teaching and examination schedule make it possible for him to

register the courses in a Post Eight Semester. In case of repetition / improvement of a course the

student shall have to pay course registration and examination fee as prescribed by the Institute.

c) As soon as a student is registered for a course, his previous grade for that course whether low or

high shall be cancelled, and only the latest grades earned by the student shall be considered for

the computation of CGPA. It shall be noted that a student can only improve ‘D’ and ‘F’ grades.

5.2.4. Freezing of Semester

Students will be allowed to freeze a semester only once during the entire degree program owing to some extreme and

genuine reason to be determined and Director KICSIT gives the final approval of the freezing of semester. Students

shall not be allowed to freeze their First and Second semester(s), in any circumstance. Only those students who have

completed their First Academic Year at the Institute shall be eligible to avail this facility.

A student must apply to the Director KICSIT, in writing, for freezing of one or two consecutive semesters within

fifteen days of commencement of the semester. Students can request for freezing of at most two (02) consecutive

semesters. The Director KICSIT will approve the request of student and Controller of Examinations shall notify the

freezing of Semester(s) accordingly.

On his return, the student will be re-registered in the same semester with next junior class, where he left the semester.

The maximum duration of the degree programme shall remain the same i.e. seven year, which will be considered from

the date of his/her first semester registration including the frozen semesters.

5.2.5. Semester Registration

The registration of the students for each semester other than first semester shall be made by the concerned authority of the Institute. The registration of the first semester shall be made by the Registrar of UET Taxila.

a. The registration of the students for each semester shall be made in accordance with an Academic Calendar notified by the course Coordinator. The application form shall be obtained from the CoE office. The students shall submit the form(s) to the CoE office. After the necessary verifications, the CoE will notify the list of registered students within ten days of the start of regular semester. He will also forward these lists to all concerned within a week.

b. In case of a regular semester if a student misses his registration for cogent reasons, and applies for it within ten days of the notification of the list of registered students, he may be allowed to get himself registered with his class by the Director of Institute. He will, however, be required to pay re-admission fee as prescribed under the rules. He shall not claim any other relaxation in the rules governing teaching and examination.

c. If a student fails to get him registered for a regular semester within the prescribed time, his name shall be struck off the Institute Rolls and he shall not be allowed to take the classes and appear in any examination.

5.2.6. Attendance Requirements

No candidate shall be eligible to appear in an End Semester Examination unless the following conditions are fulfilled:-

a. He has been on the rolls of the Institute during the semester for which the examination is being held, unless allowed by the regulations to take examination in order to repeat/improve a course.

b. He is debarred from taking the examination under the Institute rules and regulations in-force for the time being.

c. He has attended 75% of the total numbers of lectures delivered, the laboratory periods held, design and practical work done in a course during the Semester for which the examination is being held. The Director KICSIT may, for valid reasons, condone this deficiency up to 10% on the solid grounds.

d. If a student does not fulfill the condition of attendance, he shall be awarded an F-grade in that course and will have to re-register for that course in a regular semester with junior students in which the course is being offered.

e. The course teacher concerned will prepare the attendance and course coordinator will display and forward the list of such candidates who do not fulfill the condition of attendance to the controller of Examination through the Director KICSIT, immediately after the completion of the teaching session. Such candidates shall not be allowed to appear in the end semester examination of that Course.

f. Before the mid-semester examination, the teacher concerned shall give the attendance sheets to the course Coordinator for evaluation of how much the student is deficient in particular course.

6.1 Students Evaluation SystemThe performance of every student shall be continuously monitored and assessed throughout the semester. During a semester the student’s performance shall be evaluated by taking quizzes, assignments, mid semester examination, laboratory reports, and project presentations. An end semester examination shall also be taken at the end of each semester covering the entire syllabus. The course teacher shall be responsible for the evaluation of work/performance of the students of his class and for the award of grades to them on the basis of such evaluation.

6.2 Grading MechanismCourse grades shall be awarded to the students based on their performance in a course. Grading shall be indicated by letters. There shall be 4-letter grades i.e. A, B, C &D for individual courses with 9 performance levels i.e;

6.3 Evaluation Componentsa. Sessional Awards

i) Quizzes: There shall be an appropriate number of unannounced quizzes per course in a semester.

ii) Mid Semester Examination: There shall be one mid semester examination of 1.5 to 2.0 hours duration per course in a semester after eight weeks of teaching in that semester.

iii) Home Assignments / Mini Projects: There shall be an appropriate number of Home Assignments and / or Mini projects per course in a semester.

iv) Laboratory Reports: The students shall submit laboratory reports on each laboratory practical held, which the course teacher will evaluate. In this case each experiment, design, drawing, project or assignment shall be considered an examination.

b. End-Semester Examination:There shall be one End-Semester Examination of 2.0 to 3.00 hours duration covering the entire course at the end of each semester. The examination shall be held in the last two weeks of each semester.

6.4 Weightage of Evaluation ComponentsThe final grade shall depend on the marks obtained in each of the evaluation components given below. The weightage given to each evaluation component is as follows.

In case of courses not having any laboratory / practical work, the weightage of the End Semester Examination shall be 60%. While in case of courses having laboratory / practical work, the weightage of laboratory reports shall be 20% and weightage of End Semester Exam will be 40%.

6.5 Choice in Question Papers:

There shall be no choice of questions in any of the evaluation components.

6.6 Absence from Examination: Absentees in any of the evaluation components shall be awarded zero marks whereas the absentee of end Semester examination shall be awarded F grade irrespective marks

6.7 Maintenance and Display of the Sessional Awards:

a. The marked scripts of each examination component including that of end semester shall be shown to the students by the concerned teachers. In case a student is not satisfied with his awards and / or clarification from the teacher concerned, he may make written complaint to the Director who will refer his case to the related section. After the reply from section, the decision of the Director KICSIT shall be final.

b. A student who fails to take his Mid Semester Examination due to circumstances beyond his control, shall apply in writing to Director KICSIT for retaking mid semester examination before the End Semester Examination. The Director KICSIT will refer his case to the related section for consideration and decision. The decision shall be communicated to the Controller of Examinations and to the concerned student .

c. Teacher concered shall prepare four copies of sessional awards and display one copy of sessional award on the notice board one week before the start of end semester examination.

i) Sessional marks shall be displayed on notice board for students information.ii) There shall be no choice (of questions) in any of the evaluation components.iii) Absentees in any of the tests shall be awarded zero marks, and no make-up or repeat tests shall

be arranged

6.8 Place and Conduct of Examinations

Each Mid and End Semester Examination shall be arranged / conducted by the Controller of Examinations at the KICSIT, premises.

6.9 Date Sheet

The Controller of Examination UET Taxila shall issue the date sheet for each mid and end semester examinations. Mid -Semester examination shall be held on consecutive days excluding holidays which means that no gap shall be allowed between the two papers. While the End Semester examination shall be held on alternative days. However it all depends upon the how much improvement cases are there on that date otherwise examination shall be held on consecutive days excluding the holidays.




7.0. Paper Setting and Marking of Scripts for End Semester Examination

The course teacher(s) shall be responsible to set the question paper covering the entire syllabus read by that time,

mark the answer scripts and prepare the award lists.

The course teacher after setting the question paper shall get it photo copied under the supervision of CoE Office in

accordance with the number of students and deliver it to the CoE Office before a week of examination as per

date sheet.

7.1 Final Year Project

In the final year, student shall be required to do a project which is assigned six credit hours, two credits in the seventh

semester and four credit hours in the eighth semester. Students shall be required to consult their faculty advisors for the

selection of a project. Students shall be required to present their projects and reports (in hard-bounded form) before the

end semester examination of their eighth semester. A three member committee including the project supervisor, the

Controller of Examinations of UET or his nominee and an external Examiners approved by the Vice-Chancellor shall

evaluate these projects at the end of eighth semester. The eighth semester project evaluation shall be held after the End

Semester Examination weeks. It shall be followed by an open presentation.

7.2 Final Award

The final award once received by the office of the Controller of Examinations shall not be liable to any

subsequent change except with the permission of the Director KICSIT.

7.3 Notification of Result

As soon as possible after the completion of the examination, the Controller of Examinations shall notify the result.

7.4 Re-Checking of Answer Scripts

There shall be no re-evaluation of answer scripts of the end semester examination. However, a candidate shall be

allowed to have his answer scripts rechecked by the Controller of Examinations on payments of prescribed fee within

fifteen days of the declaration of the result. The Director KICSIT may condone the delay up to a maximum period of

10 days on the payment of double fee. The Controller of Examinations shall certify that:-

a) The script has not been changed.

b) No portion of the script has been left unmarked.

c) The marks awarded in the script have been correctly brought out on its cover.

d) The grand total on the cover of the script is correct.

e) The grand total on the cover of the script is correctly transferred to the award list.

f) The result has been correctly posted and notified.

7.5 Withholding of Comprehensive Result

The comprehensive result of a candidate, who is allowed to appear in the final semester examination while carrying

courses of the lower semesters, shall not be declared till he clears the courses of lower semesters as a Casual Student.

His Comprehensive results will be declared with session in which he clears the last course of his degree programme. th

After the declaration of 8 Semester result the student, who have cleared all courses shall be required to submit the

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS COMPLETION FORM for their Comprehensive Result Notification. While the

academically deficient student shall submit the CASUAL STUDENT ENROLLMENT FORM.

7.6 Award of Degree

A candidate shall be admitted to the award of degree if:

a) He has earned total credit hours required for the degree within the prescribed duration of the deg ree

programme.

b) He has obtained pass grades in all courses offered in a semester.

c) He has passed all the semesters with at least 2.0 CGPA upto completion of the degree programme.

d) He has submitted the Degree Requirements Completion Form.

7.7. Semester Grade Sheet

Obtaining of the Semester Grade Sheets (SGS) at the end of each semester shall be mandatory for all students.

Prescribed Fee will be charged at the start of each semester with semester registration fee and SGS will be issued to the

students within ten days of their respective result notification without any application. The SGS shall indicate Courses

along with Grades, Grades Points, SGPA and CGPA.




7.8 Transcript of Awards

A Transcript of Awards shall be issued to each student after completion of the degree programme on the payment

of prescribed fee by the Institute.

7.9 Provision Certificate

A candidate who fulfills all the requirements for the degree shall be issued a provisional certificate on the payment of

prescribed fee before the issuance of the degree. The provisional certificate will not itself confer any right or privilege

for admission to the degree.

8.0 University Degree

The degree shall normally be issued to the graduates at the time of University Convocation without any fee. However,

a graduate after obtaining the provisional certificate can apply for issuance of the degree before convocation on

payment of the prescribed fee. The Graduates who receive the degree in absentia after the convocation shall also be

required to pay the prescribed fee.

8.1 Merit Certificate

Merit Certificate shall be issued to the top 5% of the candidates of a particular session on the basis of CGPA or Total Grade Points

subject to a minimum 3 and a maximum 10 certificates. A fraction shall be counted as 1. Only those candidates shall be eligible for

the award of a merit certificate, who pass all the subjects in first attempt.

8.2 Issuance of Certificate / Degree

Subject to fulfillment of requirements and submission of application on prescribed forms with fee:

? Degree will normally be issued within two months of the receipt of the application.

? Any other certificate copy or duplicate copy (other than degree) will be issued within six days of

receipts of application.

Note: A candidate shall deposit double the prescribed fee if he requires a certificate or duplicate copy

(other than degree) within 24 hours.

9.0 Migration Policy

9.1 Migration from other Universities / Institutes

9.1.1 Subject to the provisions of Regulations, the Director KICSIT may admit a student to the institute after

obtaining formal approval from VC-UET by migration from other universities or institutions, accredited by the

Pakistan Engineering Council or National Computing Education Accreditation Council.

9.1.2 No student shall be admitted to first year and final year classes by migration.

9.1.3 No student other than regular student shall be allowed admission by migration.

9.1.4 Admission by migration shall not be allowed ordinarily after the expiry of three weeks from the

commencement of the session.

9.1.5 No student shall be admitted by migration unless he produces a “No Objection Certificate” and good moral

character certificate to the effect that:

a) He has obtained not less than 2.8 GPA or equivalent in the examination on the basis of which

migration is requested.

b) He has neither been debarred from taking University examinations nor suspended nor expelled

nor rusticated, for whatsoever reason, from the University or institution from which he intends to

migrate.

c) No disciplinary action is pending against him.

9.1.6 The application shall be accompanied by a detailed marks certificate showing the examination passed by the

student including Intermediate Examination on the basis of which he secured admission in the Parent University or

institution.

a) No student admitted to any university or institution against seats reserved for special categories

shall be eligible for admission by migration.

b) Only those students, who have academic merit at par with the students admitted in this institute

on open merit in the respective classes, shall be considered for admission by migration.

c) No student shall be migrated to the institute who carries any of his courses of previous years.

d) No migration shall be allowed to and from the constituent/affiliated institutions.

e) Subject to eligibility under the regulations, the grounds for migration shall constitute changes in

circumstances, which render it practically impossible for the student to continue his studies in his

Parent University or institution.

f) Migration application will be entertained only on the prescribed application form, obtainable

from the Student Section, at the cost of Rs.500/-.

g) A migration fee Rs 25,000/- (Twenty five thousand only) per year to be studied will be charged at

this university.

9.2 Migration to other Universities/Institutes

9.2.1 A student desiring to leave this institute in order to join another university or institution shall apply to the Dean of

the Faculty on the prescribed form.

9.2.2 The student will be required to clear all the university dues before he applies for migration.

9.2.3 In case of a student who has been barred from taking University examination or has been expelled or

rusticated, for whatsoever reason, No Objection Certificate shall not be issued so far as the punishment is in force.

9.2.4 The Registrar shall issue No Objection Certificate, which shall be valid only for sixty days.

9.2.5 A student who has obtained No Objection Certificate from this institute, but has not secured admission in

another institution, may be re-admitted to the institute in the class to which he can be admitted under the

regulations provided that:

a) His absence from the current teaching session of that class does not exceed four weeks, and that

b) He surrenders the No Objection Certificate.

9.2.6 Any change / addition / modification, if made in the above regulations, will also be applicable.

9.3 Transfer of Credits

Transfer of credits shall be applicable only for those students who have been migrated to this University. Credits

for only those courses shall be transferred which fulfill the following criteria:

9.3.1 Credits can only be transferred from a PEC (Pakistan Engineering Council) or NCEAC (National

Computing Education Accreditation Council) accredited Programs.

9.3.2 A course with similar title, standard, duration, credit hours and matching course description is available in

the relevant academic programs of the institute. The course equates in description and laboratories work (if any)

with the similar course of the relevant academic Programs of the University. 9.3.3 The duration of the course must

be same or more than the duration of the course in the Programs of the University.

9.3.5 A maximum of 50% of the total credit hours of the relevant academic Programs of the Institute shall be

allowed for transfer.

9.3.6 Transfer fee as prescribed by the Institute, shall be paid by the candidate.

9.3.7 Transfer of credits is considered on the basis of course contents and credit hours to be decided by the

Departmental Semester Committee.

9.3.8 Transferred credits shall not be included in CGPA calculation however, will be reflected on the transcript as

Transferred Credits.

During study period at KICSIT, students are to adopt diligent and cooperative approach to all aspects of academic life and accept responsibility in creating a supportive educational environment. In the event of serious breach, criminal misconduct, or where it is believed that the health, safety or welfare of others may be jeopardized by their continuing presence, such students will be suspended or withdrawn from KICSIT.

10.1 Academics

1. Regularity and punctuality is a must:

a. No student is allowed to be absent without any substantial reason; 75% attendance is the minimum requirement for appearing in the End-Semester Exams as per rules of the UET, Taxlia.

b. Students must reach the Institute as well as in classes in time; roll call will be called during the first five minutes of each period.

2. If a student comes to the Institute (especially by KICSIT transport) but remains away from the campus or classes, he will be looked upon as a serious offender and be penalized accordingly with a warning or fine or both.

3. Plagiarism/Cheating or use of any unfair means in the exams will be penalized to the maximum.

4. Tests/exams must not be missed; otherwise, no subsequent arrangement/adjustment will be made to this effect.

10.2 Classified Restrictions

1. In view of the sensitive location of KICSIT as well as the colony area near by, no student is allowed to roam around or visit “out of bound” areas.

2. No student can carry/use mobile phone inside Y-cross; otherwise it will be confiscated and dealt with as per security rules of KRL.

Misconduct in KICSIT

Interference with safe and smooth functioning of the KICSIT or those who study,· work or teach in KICSIT, or

Damaging the KICSIT property, its reputation or violation of Code of Conduct.·Constitutes an offence. ·

3. Inciting or staging a walk-out, a strike and an un-authorized procession are not allowed.4. No student is allowed to invite an outsider to the campus. 5. Keeping of licensed or unlicensed arms is strictly forbidden.6. Students have to abide by all the restrictions imposed by KRL Security Division from time to time and

are required for the safety and security of KICSIT/KRL premises, personnel and property.

10.3 General Conduct

1. Disobedience/misbehavior on the part of a student with any member of the Faculty/Admin/Staff is a serious offence which might lead to rustication or expulsion of the student.

2. The act of playing cards and smoking is strictly prohibited, not only on campus but (while traveling) in the KICSIT vehicles as well. The offenders will be fined.

3. Use of indecent or filthy language (in any form) in class rooms, hostel, play grounds, during travel or on the campus will be penalized severely.

4. Acts of immorality and incidents of fights or brawls on the campus are very serious offences and, therefore, will be dealt with iron hand.

5. Students must not bring illegal substance to KICSIT premises.6. Students must not bring the Institution in to disrepute through antisocial behavior.7. Students are required to sign and follow the cyber-security policy while using computing facility in

KICSIT Labs.8. The act of stealing or theft is dealt as a serious offence.9. Any willful destruction or mutilation of building, furniture, books or other property of the Institute

shall be deemed as a serious offence. The offender will have to pay the damages three times and be dealt with severely.

10. Collection of money from fellows at KICSIT to pay his/her fine is strictly prohibited. Students found in such activity will be fined at least Rs. 1000/- each.

11. Making noise/hue and cry on the campus, in corridors strictly forbidden.12. Bunking from classes or from other scheduled academic, co-curricular and extra curricular activities is

not allowed and defaulters will be fined.13. Students must display their KICSIT ID Cards at Campus and at any academic activity held by KICSIT

outside Campus. Students violating in this regard will be fined and warned. 14. Discipline in KICSIT transport requires the students on board to abstain from:

a) Causing disturbance to the driver in any form;b) Making noise or using indecent/filthy language, Smoking/Playing cards;

c) Hanging with door of the vehicles.

d) Traveling without permission or other than the allotted vehicle;

e) Forcing driver for undue delay, stopping or changing route.

f) Commenting, making noise or shouting at other passengers or nearby pedestrians, any where en-

route.

g) Embussing or debussing vehicles when they are moving and at stops other than allocated.

10.4 Disciplinary Actions:

The disciplinary action may take one and/or more of the following forms, depending on the nature and severity of indiscipline or misconduct.

1. Imposition of fines

2. Recovery of loss or breakage of movable and immovable Institute property and this can amount to three times the cost of loss caused by the damage.

3. Placing a student on probation

4. Barring students from classes, labs or from the use of facilities entrusted by the Institute, for certain amount of time.

5. Suspension from the rolls for one or more semesters

6. Rustication

7. Expulsion.

10.5 Major and Minor Penalties

For the purpose of effective enforcement of these regulations:

1. The following penalties shall be deemed as minor penalties:

a. Imposition of fine of Rs.1000.00 or Rs. 500.00.

b. Recovery of loss or breakage of movable and immovable Institute property.

c. Placing a student on probation.

d. Suspension from the rolls.

2. The following shall be deemed as major penalties:

a. Imposition of fine more than Rs.1000.00.

b. Rustication.

c. Expulsion.

10.5.1 Payment of Fine

A fine when imposed shall be paid within ten working days of its notification, failing which the name of the defaulter shall be struck off from the KICSIT rolls and he shall be barred from classes, labs, taking exams, use of Institute facilities or provision of clearance or certificates .

10.5.2 Recovery of Loss or Breakage of Property

A student shall be liable to pay for the loss caused by him to the KICSIT property within ten working days of the notification of the order by the competent authority. As elaborated earlier, this penalty would amount to three times the actual loss caused. Failure to pay for the loss shall be considered an act of indiscipline and misconduct and the name of such a student shall be struck off the roll.

10.5.3 Placing on Probation

A student may be placed on observation by the competent authority for a specified period and such period of probation may be extended if the student fails to improve his conduct. Continued failure to improve his conduct may lead to further disciplinary action.

10.5.4 Suspension from Rolls

1. A student may be suspended from the KICSIT rolls for a period not exceeding two weeks at a time. Such a student shall pay the normal fine of absence for the period of suspension. A student suspended from the roll may be reinstated or his period of suspension may be extended, as the case may be, by the competent authority.

2. A student committing an act of major indiscipline and misconduct may be rusticated for one academic year or two semesters which shall mean the loss of one academic year to the rusticated student insofar as his appearance in the KICSIT examinations during the academic year is concerned.

3. A student committing an act of major indiscipline or misconduct may be expelled from the KICSIT for at least two academic years or four semesters from the date of expulsion.

10.5.5 Notification of Rustication or Expulsion

1. KICSIT will not issue a migration certificate to rusticated or expelled students.

2. These Regulations are hereby through this document are intimated to the parent/guardian of the student concerned.

10.5.6 Re-admission of rusticated or expelled student

1. It shall be obligatory on the part of the KICSIT to readmit the rusticated student. If he wishes to rejoin the KICSIT in the beginning of the next academic year or on the lapse of due period.

2. The student may be re-admission only once without going through the admission process. There is no second re-admission allowed.

10.6 Binding Authority

On having found a student guilty of a serious breach of discipline, violation of any prescribed rule etc., the decision of the competent authority to rusticate/expel or to award him any other punishment shall be a binding.

It shall be noted that failure to meet the disciplinary standards will require the student liable to be fined, or even expelled. In order to enforce code of conduct effectively, an undertaking by the student and his parents shall be required at the time of joining KICSIT. Specimen of the “UNDERTAKING” is given in Appendix 1 which needs to be typed on a stamp paper worth Rs 10.00 and notarized.

11.1 Co-Curricular Activities

To help the students relax and refresh, various extra-curricular and co-curricular activities are organized. Extra-curricular activities include sports week, new inductees’ welcome and farewell functions, recreation trips, whereas co-curricular activities include open houses, seminars, industry visits and participation to academic events and software competitions.

11.1 Students Study Tours

To widen vision and horizons, students of KICSIT are given tours to Industry and software houses. These activities help them in making selection for final semester projects and in turn, choosing a career of their own choice.

11.1.2 Open House

At the end of Spring Semester, an Open House is held where outgoing students and senior students of KICSIT display their projects. Experts and professionals from industry and educational institutes are invited to the Open House to look at the students projects. Interested firms and organizations conduct interviews and tests of students for jobs. Brain-storming session is also organized to help 7th semester students in selecting their final year degree projects.

11.1.3 Technical Seminars

Prominent Scientists, Engineers and professionals are invited as guest speakers to interact with the students and to introduce them with the advancements of their fields. This activity helps all students not only to know about the new areas but also to know that what are the core skills that are needed to achieve excellence in these fields. This activity indirectly educates the students to know about various careers and needed skill-sets for these careers. It helps them to realign themselves and focus their attention to the subjects that are the core of their chosen/identified careers.

11.1.4 Skill Development Centre and Short Courses

KICSIT has established a skill development center to impart training in various application software areas. KICSIT organizes different short courses on technical and non-technical subjects. Skill development center also conducts short term trainings on computer literacy and tools.

11.2 Extra-Curricular Activities

An annual sports week is organized by faculty and students in Spring Semester. The event is very popular and is designed to groom the students organizational and managerial talent while providing a much needed break from the otherwise busy work schedule. Students play cricket, football, basket ball, badminton and table tennis, Futsol and few new athletic events like 100 meter sprint, Relay Races, Long Jump, Discuss Throw, Shot Put and Tug of war, have also been introduced .

The Institute has a fully air-conditioned indoor sports complex, outdoor tennis courts, basketball ground and large playing fields along side. All this surrounded by lush green hills for a breath taking view, and the peaceful country side.

The Institute teams participate in various National and Inter University games, debates and software competitions and exhibitions.

At the start of every semester, a welcome and orientation function is arranged for newly admitted students. Towards the end of each semester, students arrange a fabulous farewell function for their graduating seniors. Every year, KICSIT organizes recreation and sight seeing trips for students, faculty and staff.

Food competition based on particular themes are also organized by the students.

12 Campus Facilities

KICSIT provides congenial and disciplined environment with air-conditioned class rooms, computer labs and other laboratories. Sufficient number of PCs are available in computer labs to maintain 1:1 student to PC ratio. Electronics labs have needed equipment for courses experiments and training.

12.1 Transport Facility

Adequate transport facility is provided for students coming from Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Kahuta and Humak on a very subsidized rate. Students are picked from specified stops on the main roads. Girls students are picked at door steps where vehicles can reach.KICSIT transport facility will only be provided on specified existing routes. Extensions and changes in routes on individual requests will not be possible.

12.2 Library

The institute has a library to provide the knowledge and information to the students. The library contains text books, on various disciplines such as Engineering, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Management, History and Islamic ideology, reference books, lectures on CD/DVDs and periodicals. The library maintains a book bank containing more than 4,000 text books for students use. Students can borrow the text books from book bank in lieu of a security deposit for a semester. At the start of every semester they return the previous semester books and borrow for the next semester.

12.3 Book Fair

KICSIT Library hosts a book fair during each semester enabling faculty and students to choose latest books for their courses. Students are encouraged to buy books and discounts are provided.

12.4 Photostat and Printing Facility

KICSIT provide Photostat, scanning and printer facility in its premises at subsidized rates.

12.5 Cafeteria

The Institute houses a purposeful cafeteria that caters the needs of students. The institute management ensures that the food items served at cafeteria are fresh, of good quality, have variety and are economically priced. There is an exclusive sitting place for female students at cafeteria.

12.6 Girls Common Room

For female students, a Girls Common Room is specified for their relaxing activities in free time. All facilities required

for cool and calm environment are provided. The female students can offer their prayers, prepare their assignments

and can take meals in the Girls Common Room.

12.7 Mosque

The campus has a mosque for offering prayers for male students, faculty and staff.

12.8 Hostel Facility

Limited Hostel facility is available for boys students

only. It is at a walking distance from institute and

provided to students coming from far flung areas on

First come first served basis. It has messing and laundry

facilities. Desirous students can apply at the time when

they are offered admissions.
