Disappearing Half Square Triangle (HST) Designed by Abigail Dolinger, August 2015 These instructions yield two blocks, 8” finished. 1 10” square White fabric 1 10” square dark Print fabric Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the White 10” square. Place the White and Print squares right sides together. Sew ¼” away from both sides of the drawn line. Cut apart on the drawn line. Press seam allowances toward dark triangles. Trim the two resulting HSTs to 9 ½” square. Working with one HST at a time, place the 9 ½” HST on the cutting mat. Measure and cut 2” in from all 4 sides of the HST. Swap the White rectangles with the Print rectangles. Sew the block together like a Nine Patch with three rows of three units each. Press the seam allowances in the top and bottom rows toward the center. Press the seam allowances of the center row toward the outside of the block. Sew the three rows together and press the seam allowances toward the outside of the block. The block should measure 8 ½” square. Trim HSTs to 9 ½“ 2“ 5 ½“ 2“
