GWRRA Vision and Mission Statements
GWRRA Vision
Gold Wing Road Riders Association [GWRRA], founded in 1977, is recognized as the world's largest single-marquee motorcycle association in the world. GWRRA provides safety, technical, and educational services to its Members world-wide.
GWRRA Mission
Dedicated to our Motto; Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge, GWRRA Members enjoy the freedom of belonging to a not-for-profit, non-religious and non-political organization.
GWRRA Values
• Friends - GWRRA Members are men and women from all walks of life with varied interests and backgrounds. We have Gold Wing and other touring motorcycle riders of all age groups. Some ride solo and many ride with small and large groups! New Members join GWRRA especially for the technical information we share; some of our Members join for the enjoyment of riding with friends and also meeting new friends. Find your future riding friends with your Region Map.
• Fun - As a family organization, GWRRA has certain fun groups to include restaurant, picnic and campout runs. We also have GWRRA groups to include charities, parades, and small or large events across the country. GWRRA Members can participate in live or video seminars through Rider Education Programs.
• Safety - We strive for improvement through GWRRA safety workshops. We will share technical expertise, news and tips about riding, maintenance and the best touring routes in the world. Safety is for Life on our GWRRA Rider Education Programs page.Knowledge - While generalization about a group of individuals as large as today's GWRRA is difficult, GWRRA Members are likely to be independent thinkers, fun-loving, generous, adventuresome, cooperative and unfazed by the natural challenges of riding in the rain, temperature extremes or highway uncertainties. Many Members have completed CPR and first aid training, making them the best-prepared motorcycle riders on the world's highways! Find " CPR and First Aid Training " on our GWRRA Medic First Aid International® Programs.

2021 Ride Schedule
Hi gang, It is finally 2021!!!! Let's hope this year is better than last! It is time to
submit those riding ideas for our ride list. Please email your ideas
Just hang in there a little bit longer. It will be Spring soon. Hopefully this
COVID monster will be under control so we can get together again and ride.
I have already been counting the days to meet with my good friends. I miss
you all!
Stay well,
Roy
Chapter Director - Santo C.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Here’s to looking forward to 2021. It’s gotta get better. I hope you all had a great holiday and were able to talk or visit with friends and family. Willy and I spent Christmas with our two daughters here in Cleveland, after all of us strictly quarantined for two weeks prior! We enjoyed our time and food together. Now, we are all looking forward to a better 2021. We have ideas for the Chapter in 2021 coming up soon and look for members to join in! First, Jim Hopper and I were sworn-in as Assistant Chapter Direct and Chapter Director, respectively, in a December virtual meeting by Doug and Lynn Kerst, Assistant District Directors for North Central Ohio. Philip Vink introduced Jim and I to the team on the call. After an awkward joint recitation of the Oath, where Jim and I tried to coordinate our voices, we stayed on for updates from Doug and the other chapter officers who attended the call. Ohio and personal judgment still call for limited exposure in large groups in indoor spaces. We all agree to delay our chapter gatherings at least until we can be outdoors or other safe settings. Jim and I talked about having a chapter virtual/online/internet meeting where those of you able and willing can catch up with other members. Other chapters have been doing this with some success. I know it’s not a familiar way to “meet” for some of us, but I will work to provide help and easy-to-follow steps for those wanting that. Meeting this way is a great alternative to not meeting. Give me your suggestions for “virtual gatherings” and look for details soon. We are planning rides for 2021, and we will also do this virtually in the coming weeks. Roy, Jim and I agreed that we want your ideas and as much planning or ride-leading help you can provide. But, if you have a ride idea, it does not require you to lead the ride. So, think of the roads, events, or places you think we would enjoy this year and be ready to share your list! For myself, it’s fun to share the places Willy and I have discovered in our rides. We know many good hotdog spots within 200 miles! The state chapter has events for us, too. Cabin Fever is still on for Feb 11-13, 2021 at Salt Fork Lodge with a “Game Show” theme. There are two 2021 Rider Courses--one in Wilmington OH on May 1 and 2, and in Canfield OH on May 22 and 23. One day is reserved for trikes. I’m planning to attend the Canfield Rider Course. We can all use a refresher. There are also local chapter rides and events that we will share as they come up. This is all just the start to a great and safe riding season in 2021!
FIRST ZOOM GATHERING SCHEDULED FOR
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 27th. TIME AND
AGENDA WILL BE SENT PRIOR TO THE MEETING
Assistant Chapter Director - Jim H.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to Everyone!
As Santo mentioned in his CD section of this newsletter, we have officially been sworn into our positions at the last Ohio GWRRA District meeting. We didn't have time to practice saying the oath of office in unison before we spoke it, so we were a little rough starting out. I thought we did a pretty fair job once we got going... at least nobody asked us to repeat it! This was the first time I was part of a large (8 people) Zoom meeting. Zoom is a piece of software that runs on your PC which allows multiple people to have a group conference call. All the people show up on your PC screen in a grid. It's pretty straight forward to setup and use. Doug Kerst (our ADD) tells us he has chapters holding meetings using Zoom (with up to 30 people). Santo wants to try an experiment to see if it can work for us. We would like to schedule a Zoom meeting on the evening of Wednesday, January 27th. Additional details concerning time and agenda will be forthcoming. Here's what a Zoom screen with 8 people looks like:
This photo was from our swearing-in ceremony. I took an iPhone picture of my computer screen, so the
quality is poor, but you get the idea. **Note there is a yellow highlight around my box (top, center). This is
because the system picked up my voice just as I said "Cheese". This highlight method is used to let you
know who's speaking (extremely helpful with a large group). Also, you may notice Philip (in the center of the
photo) looks like he's sitting in front of his Gold Wing. Zoom will automatically project (behind you) whatever
picture you supply it with. You type in your name when you start your session, and it displays that in the
lower left-hand side of your photo.
Here's a link to a good 8-minute YouTube video which shows how to sign on and use ZOOM. Finish reading the rest of the Newsletter then click on the link below to view it when you have time. Joining a Zoom Call for the First Time

We received overwhelming positive feedback (22 people) on selecting Jennifer's Restaurant
(14415 Pearl Rd, Strongsville, OH 44136) as our new Gathering spot when we start having in-
person group meetings again. Only one person made a cautionary comment that it might be a little
farther, but it wasn't a problem since it's just part of "motorcycle riding".
I officially put my motorcycle away a couple of weeks into December. It was the last day we had
weather over 50 degrees with no snow. I say "officially put it away" because I plugged in the trickle
charger... for me, that's official! Within a couple of days, we got a 6-8" snow dump at our place, so
my timing was good. However, I noticed a few days later that I hadn't checked the big Butler
drinking mug on the handlebars. I knew right away I had left it filled with water. Humm, was it
frozen? Nope! That surprised me. Now that I dumped the water.... the bike's Officially In storage.
Start thinking about potential rides we could do this year. We'd like to put a ride list together so we
can start discussing various options. I thought I'd list some ideas for rides from the past. Maybe
these rides will trigger some ideas for this year:
