Vacancy on Board of Directors

The recent election of officers has resulted in a vacancy on the Buicktown Board of Directors. Paul Marchi was ac-claimed for the office of treasurer thereby vacating his position as past director for the calendar year 2015. The Buicktown’s Constitution is specific regarding selecting a replacement for an elected office in the event of a vacancy. The board is responsible to select a replacement from members in good standing for the interval to the next election. There are no words regarding an election requirement for this situation. Duties of a past director are: 1. Serve as a voting member of the board, 2. Assist officers and chairpersons where their experience will benefit the chapter and, 3. Solicit for and conduct the annual election. This notice shall appear in the February Crier. You may contact Roger Tyyska with your question or, to identify a willing and qualified candidate. The board’s decision will take place at the March BOD meeting. Roger Tyyska, Past Director

Looking Ahead to Water Street on Show Car Saturday By Roger Tyyska

The pages of the calendar are turning and Buicktown is preparing for August 15, 2015 and the BttB car show extravaganza on Saturday. This will be our third “All Buick Show” located across the Flint River on Historic Water Street. We learned a lot in 2014 and have taken that experience to heart to improve this year’s show. Volunteers in 2014 enjoyed the day and are encouraging all members to join in. Planning and preparation are divided between two new committees. One is for the car show and the other for historical programs to be given in the Durant-Dort Office building. Within the past eleven years Buicktown parking was located on Kearsley Street and reserved for club mem-bers only. Upon moving to Water Street all Buick show car drivers were welcome to join us with no restriction to club affiliation. Here we took on new responsibilities acting as the official host for this location. BttB does not organize Water Street events nor staff it with their volunteers. Last year slightly more than half of the 54 cars on Water Street were in the club. This year the count could take a giant step forward. Look for the March issue of the Buick Bugle and the story about Water Street, the Durant-Dort building and Factory One. We are listed on the Bugle calendar as an approved BCA Chapter event. This may be the start of an annual BCA celebration in Flint. The Buick mystique still resides in the City of Flint; let’s do our part to keep it here. The first meeting of the Car Show Committee will take place on Tuesday February 10th at 1:00 PM at the Du-rant-Dort Office building. The purpose is to talk about last year and how this year can be improved. This February meeting is well advanced in our schedule but, it will give members time to think about what we should or should not do. Early is much better than putting it off until the last minute and discover a problem. All members should be aware that access to Water Street on Show Car Saturday is “EZ in and EZ out” at any time of the day. This is important as your help will be needed and appreciated even if you can only show up for a short amount of time. If we can get many members to sign up for a two hour task, that leaves the rest of the day to see the main show on Saginaw Street. Lots of people doing a little work are much better than a few people doing all the work. Sign up sheets will be available in advance. Now is the time for all good mem-bers to come to the aid of your Buick club. It will be fun, we’ll get to know each other better and the club will be stronger because of this show. In the following months we’ll keep you updated with the latest information. If you want to join a committee, have a suggestion or a question contact Roger Tyyska, Dave Bloch or Dave Langdon. Dave Langdon is chairman for the historical programs. Roger and Dave Bloch are co-chairs for the car show. Join in; it should be fun!

Now back to business, we would like to thank everyone who came over for game night, we had lots of food, fun and conversation. Hope you have marked your calendar for Feb.21st and our meeting at the UAW hall. On March 21st at 2:00p.m. we will be meeting at Coles Machine Shop 201 W. Rising St. in Davison. Leroy Cole will give us the his-tory of the Cole Automobile and show us his collection. We have an opportunity to tour the Truck As-sembly Plant on Van Slyke in Flint, if we have enough interest , we need 15-20 people , so please call me 810-728-3133 or e-mail [email protected] to let me know ,it could possibly be our spring tour. Will see you all in Feb. Keep warm, safe and God Bless ! Millie and Larry

First Meeting of Water Street Car Show Committee

The first meeting of the Show Car Committee will take place on a Tuesday February 10th at 1:00 PM at the Durant-Dort Office building at 316 Water Street. Expect the first meeting to last at least two hours. The first item on the agenda is to inform all in regard to arrangements and agreements between the stakeholders. When communication and coordination between these multi-tudes are in place, Buicktown’s primary tasks on Saturday are to operate the show car entrance gate, assist in parking, staff the Buicktown information booth and welcome our participants. I don’t mean to downplay the hard work put into preparations. However, this is a one day event lasting about 12 hours. No other Buicktown or BCA social events are planned at this date. The purpose of the committee is to do the planning and organizing. We must think things through so when the day arrives, all goes smoothly. Hopefully no surprises show up which could have been planned for. As a group we will talk about what needs to be done and how to staff for that. No tasks should be made difficult. Buicktown has done BCA national shows; this is very small compared to that. See you there, it should be an informative meeting. Roger
