Let’s start with a very easy question…

Do you agree?


What if one sheep was pregnant?


Would there still be 10 sheep in the field?


Perhaps there would now be 101/2 sheep in the field now?


What if one sheep was actually a newborn lamb?


Would there still be 10 sheep in the field?


Perhaps there would only be 9 sheep in the field then?

( and 1 lamb? )


Look again at the field of sheep…


… there are actually NO sheep here…


… as they are all pieces of cauliflower,


… pipe cleaners and plasticine !


When counting…

Know how, what is being counted, is defined


When counting…

Know what is included and what is not included


This is important when analysing educational data…


… as there are many indicators…


… with definitions that have changed over time.
