Happy Holidays! We’re looking forward to time with family and friends during this season.

The University of Illinois closes beginning December 23rd and reopens on Tuesday, January

3rd. CCRS will be closed during that time.

We are preparing to close-down our July – December funding cycle and open a new

budget for January 2017 as we received notification in October that we were granted

funding for January – June cycle. The separate funding cycle may affect you. Here’s how:

Our Professional Development Grants (PDF) deadline was December 2nd. We will

have another application form for trainings taken January – June 2017. These will

hopefully be up on the website and available late January.

Quality Improvement Funds (QI) including Accreditation Assistance, Training

Stipends, and the Cohort grants also closed and will have a new grant process in the

January – June cycle. Watch the web and / or Facebook for updates, forms, and

application deadlines.

We don’t have any changes to the CCAP program to report. New training requirements

will be coming sometime in the spring so watch for updates.

We’ve added some additional forms onto the website to assist you with obtaining CCAP

forms, updating vacancy information, or registering for training. Please use these as

needed. CCRS’ website is https://ccrs.illinois.edu/.

In other news:

Due to funding constraints we are using hourly and extra-help staff to assist in

processing CCAP paperwork. We are processing at about 10-12 business days.

If you send in paperwork and haven’t received notice within 3 weeks, please call

us to make sure it has arrived.

Tina, Jenny, and Kathy are here to help with your ExceleRate™ and QRIS needs.

Remember to have your clients report any changes to their case within 10 days of the change.

Make sure your parents answer the questions about family size and whether the other parent of a child is in the house. These questions often get missed and can result in a processing delay.

Keep track of your client’s eligibility period end date. Your client should receive a redetermination in the mail the month before their approval ends. If not, they need to call the CCRS office to request one.

When your parents send in paystubs as proof of income, remind them that the

paystubs need to be CURRENT and CONSECUTIVE. If they are not, it can result in a processing delay.

Although the state budget expires on December 31, 2016, Child Care Assistance payments were not included in the budget. Instead, CCAP is paid though judicial and legislative mandates.

The Quality Improvement Funds (QI) Funds are offered through the CCRS to assist and support programs that are choosing to work towards or maintain an ExceleRate™ Illinois Circle of Quality. The QI Funds are comprised of 3 components: (1) ExceleRate™ Illinois Cohort, (2) ExceleRate™ Illinois Training Stipend, and (3) Accreditation Assistance. QI COHORT (FORMERLY KNOWN AS QC MINI-GRANTS): The Cohort will consist of individuals working towards or maintaining an ExceleRate™ Circle of Quality. Cohorts will be led by CCRS Staff. For center programs, the attendee must be part of the administrative team; and, for family child care, the primary provider is required to attend all cohort sessions (2 sessions; 4 hours each). Upon completion of the cohort requirements and the program’s self-assessment, programs may request funds to help objectives noted on the program’s Continuous Quality Improvement Plan (CQIP). TRAINING STIPEND: Licensed Child Care Programs working towards/maintaining an ExceleRate™ IL Circle of Quality may apply for an ExceleRate™ IL stipend. This is only available for training required to achieve/maintain an IL Circle of Quality and for the staff required to attend.

ACCREDITATION ASSISTANCE: Helps with fees associated with the accreditation process for child care programs applying for or maintaining an ExceleRate IL Silver or Gold Circle of Quality.

Maintains a permanent record of these achievements in a Professional Development Record (PDR). You can access this information at any time by viewing your PDR online through a secure section of the Gateways Website.

Includes a trainer and training approval process that will recognize and validate the caliber of trainers and trainings.

Compiles a statewide online training calendar which will be available on the Gateways website.

Jim Gill, an award-winning musician and author, offers more than a show to watch. Each concert is an opportunity for family

play! In concert, Jim strums energetic rhythms on his banjo while everyone claps, sings, dances and even sneezes along to the

silly and inspiring musical games that he creates.

The concert will feature songs from his newest release, Vote for Jim Gill! Jim will also lead families in active favorites such as

“Spin Again” and his “Silly Dance Contest!”

Jim Gill’s distinctive music play creates a family room experience wherever the concert is held. Come and join in the fun!

Over the years Jim Gill’s music and books have received, among other honors, five awards from the American Library Association. Early childhood professionals, however, are most interested in the fact that Jim Gill’s unique creations in music play provide joyous opportunities for children to learn. And they appreciate that his approach to song and book writing is informed by graduate studies in child development and 20 years of experience working with children and families. In this energizing session, Jim will share examples of his work – both books and songs – that teachers and care providers can bring back to their classrooms, playrooms, and family room. Most importantly, Jim will discuss how his unique creations in music play inspire young children not only to move, but to regulate their movements…. Not only to sing, but to make connections between the words they sing and the printed word. Jim will discuss how a play-based program provides an inclusive environment for children with special needs and share thoughts based on his work with children of all ability levels. Early childhood professionals will leave the session inspired to share a new repertoire of songs and reading play activities with the children that they care for. Even more, they will leave the session understanding that what is most challenging about the nature of early childhood education is also what makes the profession so exciting. When we define our teaching as helping children learn, we not only provide joyous challenges for the children. We also keep ourselves engaged and rejuvenated by watching their excitement as they learn.

Jim Gill is a musician and author with singular credentials among

children’s artists. Jim spent twenty years directing programs in

music play for families and children with special needs in the

Chicago area. His particular writing style—combining word play

and movement opportunities into songs—was developed

through this work. Jim completed his graduate studies in child

development at the Erikson Institute of Chicago with a special

emphasis on the study of play. His work experience and studies

have led Jim to create each of his recordings and books as an

opportunity for playful interactions between a child and a caring

adult.

Jim has released seven award-winning CDs of music play for

young children that are favorites in family rooms, classrooms and

playrooms. Jim is also the author of two

Children’s books. Over the years he has

received five awards from the American

Library Association for his releases. Over

the years Jim has shared his expertise and

ideas on music, play and literacy with

organizations such as Head Start, The

National Association for the Education of

Young Children, The National Association

for Family Child Care and the Chicago

Symphony Orchestra.
