CHELMSFORD BUSINESS ASSOCIATION • CHELMSFORD, MA 01824 • 978-250-3858 www.chelmsfordbusiness.org Fall 2009 Letter from Lynn Fall is in the air and the chilly evenings and mornings remind us that the leaves will soon be falling and snow will be on the way! I wonder if all the acorns that are falling from the oak trees are a sign of a harsh winter, but I am sure the squirrels are loving it! Now on to business… On September 21st the CBA held its annual Golf Social at Chelmsford Country Club. What a beautiful day for golfing, we could not have asked for better weather! Thanks to Mark Duffy for coordinating the event! Thanks also to our “tee-sponsors” and our local businesses who donated gift certificates for prizes. Hope you had a chance to get to the “Chelmsford Farmers’ Market” this past summer. It was a huge success with wonderful fresh produce, baked goods, and fresh cut flowers; hopefully it will be brought back again next summer! August 29th was the Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail… something that Chelmsford residents have been waiting to happen for 20 years! We are already seeing many bikers and walkers on the trail. The CBA was pleased to be able to make a donation to the opening ceremony of the Rail Trail. Chelmsford Town Business Day will be held at the Adams Library on Wednesday, November 4th from 7:30 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. This is being sponsored by the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce. This is free and open to all businesses – new or established – addressing business issues including State & Municipal Issues, Financial Options, Procurement & Technical Assistance, and Business Counseling & Training. There will be a great selection of speakers, some of which include: Town Manager Paul Cohen, Senator Susan Fargo and State Representatives Atkins, Golden and Nangle. The Annual Meeting of the CBA will be held on Thursday, November 19th at 7pm. We welcome any of our members to attend this meeting. Our very popular Holiday Social will be held on Thursday, December 3rd at the Radisson Hotel and Suites in Chelmsford. This is always a fun evening that is included as part of your membership in the CBA. Please be sure to RSVP as soon as you receive your invitation as space is limited. Cocktail hour begins at 6:30 pm, followed by dinner, entertainment and our great raffle! We apologize to those of you who had items ready for “Shred Day”, the truck broke down and they were unable to make it. We will notify members when the next one is scheduled. We hope business is picking up for those of you who have been feeling this economic slow down. Remember to support our local businesses! Feel free to join us at any of our monthly meetings, second Thursday of each month at 12:00 noon at the CBA offices on Summer Street. Just give a call if you plan to attend, we would love to see you! A closing thought from R.W. Emerson: “Do not go where the path may lead, instead go where there is no path and leave a trail.” Thank you! Lynn M. Marcella Lynn Marcella CBA President PROOF

BOSTON BUYING POWERBOSTON BUYING POWERP O W E R I N G B O S T O N B U S I N E S S

Boston Buying Power (BBP) is a program designed by the City of Boston to control volale energy costs for theBoston based business and non-profit community. Mayor Menino invites and encourages all businesses and non-profits in the Greater Boston Area to parcipate in this successful program, and he would love to include as manybusinesses in the Chelmsford area as possible.

There are two ways to save on your energy budgets; use less energy and pay less for that energy. BBP addressesboth aspects and provides your business with advanced and effecve programs to procure energy and track yourconsumpon paerns. BBP combines the aggregated purchasing power of thousands of commercial and industrialcustomers across the greater Boston area, giving businesses a host of benefits including low prices and long-termrate stability.

Over the past months, BBP has grouped hundreds of accounts with tremendous success, including all 2009 auconsproducing 20-30% savings versus the current ulity rates.

As a customer of our “Price Sensive” contracts, all are contractually guaranteed that the results of the BBP auconmust be less than the current and comparable ulity rate. This addional protecon ensures that BBP evaluates allopons for your electric service, including the local ulity.

Please visit www.bostonbuyingpower.com for more details on the program.
