HOW TO SURVIVE MY CLASS

Mrs. Susan K. Longo Room: 246 Email address: [email protected]

Teaching Assignment: Social Studies Economics/Sociology/Economics: Concepts and

Choices ~ semester courses~ + Global Studies

Course Description: View on-lineTextbook: Economics courses: Principles and Practices

Sociology: Sociology and YOU, Global Studies: World History

THINGS TO KNOW IN ORDER TO SURVIVE!

Final Exam: Counts as 1/5 of your grade. Each quarter counts twice.

The final average is based upon 5 grades rather than 3.

Exemptions from the final are possible: Overall average must be 90 or above,

absences must be less than 5;referrals must be non-existent.

Grading: Each 5 week score is based upon 5 categories of grades.

Each category contributes to 20% of your report card grade.

Tests, quizzes, homework, class/rock work, and participation each count as 20% of the final 100% calculation.

Stock and budget are counted within the class work category.

*Late work may be accepted but receives ½ credit only.

Illegal absences do not entitle a student to a grade for the given assignment or test.

The participation grade for the day would, of course, be a zero if absent.

ALL LATE WORK GOES IN THE BLACK FOLDER

THE RACK IS BY THE CLASS ROOM DOOR.ALL LATE WORK, FOR WHATEVER REASON,

IS TO BE PLACED IN THAT FOLDER AND THAT FOLDER ONLY.

Extra credit is not typically available.

Students are expected to do what needs to be done.

Most students taking this course are seniors.

The course is required. Be responsible.

Extra Credit, in a sense, is available on Learning Castle.

IF a student completes each and every assignment,it could enable the student to pass the course

or to be eligible for exemption from the final exam.

THIS DOESNOT APPLY !

In essence, it is up to you to get the job done.

You need to be on time for class.

Be punctual. Know what you missed.

Check my website for an outline of what was missed on any given day. Some assignments can be down loaded from the site. CHECK IT EVERY DAY!!!

Other hand-outs are available from the red notebook located by the window. BLUE NOTEBOOK FOR GLOBAL STUDIES

The notebook is set by chapters.

A semester course does not allow for a great deal of make up time or mistakes.

Make every effort to make it right the first time.

The corollary to the rule:

“Half a cookie is better than no cookie at all!”

Class routines/procedures Upon entering the room, please read the notice in plastic. It informs you of the materials needed for class. If you need your textbook and did not bring it to class then; immediately go and get it. Do not wait for me to ask you to do so. If “RW” is noted, it indicates that you have an assignment to do immediately. It will be found under the rock by the window.

*RW and all other graded papers are to be placed on the shelf that corresponds with the time of your class period. (Window sill)

Assignments handed in late, for whatever reason, go in the black folder.

It is marked as LATE WORKand appears on the wall entering class.

Your heading is required on all graded papers. It consists of: Name, Period, and Date.

The date appears on the front board.

For graded assignments, please use blue or black ink only.

Failure to follow these instructions results in loss of points.

Get computer access. Sign on to any computer in school or out. Go to the school website, then to JCB and staff listings: Longo. Next, click on “My website.” Go to “Daily Update” and click on the date you were absent. You need not find me or live in fear interrupting my class. There is no reason to get behind. Find out what you missed simply by reading over the update on the website. Then, follow through. You may have to cross reference to class notes or handouts or homework. And, you may have to come in and pick up a copy of something. (Notebook, window sill.) That is acceptable.. School Center

Daily Update

In answer to the question: “WHAT DID

I MISS?”

ONE MORE THING!

If you leave the room, you must have your agenda filled out.

In addition, sign out on the sheet in the front of the room.

Use my name stamp in lieu of my signature.

Be sure to sign back in upon your return.

Failure to return results in a loss of privileges.

• Late work: if your work is late because of a legal absent then, it is not docked.

If you missed a test, etc. make arrangements to bring your grades up-to-date.

Deadlines for make ups will be considered on an individual basis.

ABSENCES: Keep in mind that a 30 minute tardy adds up to a full absence.

Less than 30 minutes ACCUMULATE to a full absence over time.

Absences from class mean loss of notes and can lead to a lack of academic success, especially if those absences are deemed illegal!

14 absences (7 in a ½-year course) is the maximum number of allowable absences before missing work must be made up after school, with the teacher.

Work not made up in this manner will not be accepted.

Warning letters will be sent after a student misses a certain number of classes in subsequent intervals.

Over-the-limit letters will be sent out when the student misses 15 classes ..fill year

(8 in a ½-year course).
