You may want to start by askin
g them whether they leave their
door open or closed after completin
g a wash. If the answer is closed, the
following information will be useful
for them to know.With front-load
ing washers, the rubber seal aro
und the door can often start to sm
ell over time. Washing machines are
specifically designed to hold in water, so
if the front door stays closed betwee
n wash cycles, it ends up holding
in all
the moisture from the previou
s wash. This creates an environm
ent perfect for mould to grow in.
To prevent foul odours from sti
nking up their washing machine, sug
gest that they leave the door open betw
een cycles, allowing the rubber ring to fully
dry.They should als
o consider using some descaler
solution once a month to clean the doo
r seal thoroughly, followed by a w
ash cycle on the highest temper
ature. Both of these will help to min
imise the build-up of mould and prev
ent any more bad smells.
If they find that stains or smells
still remain after completing the ab
ove steps, replacing the seal compl
etely is the recommended solution.
