What is Photoshop?
• Photoshop is an image editing software developed and manufactured by Adobe Systems Inc.
• It was first developed by Thomas Knoll and John Knoll in 1988 • Photoshop is considered one of the leaders in photo editing software. • the term to photoshop or photoshopping has become popular, although Adobe
discourages its use. • In its basic form software allows users to manipulate, crop, resize, and correct colour
on digital photos.
Versions of Photoshop
• 1988 – 2003 Photoshop followed a number based version 1.0, 2.0, 2.5 etc… • This changed in October 2003 with the release of Photoshop Creative Suite (CS) • CS continued until Creative suite 6 (CS6) released in 2012. • This changed in 2013 to Photoshop Creative Cloud (CC), a subscription option, and
continued with updates of CC 2014 and CC 2015. • The most up-to-date version is Photoshop is CC 2017
Photoshop CS4
• Old version released 2008 • Hard to find • Cheap to buy • OK for learning basics only • Not recommended
Photoshop CS5
• Old version released 2010 • Hard to find • Cheap to buy • Learning basics only • Not recommended but useable foe beginners
Photoshop CS6
• Old version released 2012 • Available Online • Roughly $250 (US) • Last version before in the Creative Suite Model • Recommended
Photoshop Elements
• Basic version of Photoshop • Designed as an entry level photo editor • Aimed at non-experts as does not have all the same capabilities as Photoshop CS/CC • No part of the CC subscription model. • Recommended
Photoshop CC
• First version released in 2014 • Available Online from www.Adobe.com/Photoshop • Subscription Model. • Prices range but generally start from €12 per month • Newest version is Photoshop CC 2017 • Contains updates if you are still on subscription plan • Usually packaged with Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Bridge • Highly Recommended
