Literally "two sounds" or "two tones“. Also known as a gliding vowel, refers to

two adjacent vowel sounds occurring within the same syllable.

Technically, a diphthong is a vowel with two different targets: that is, the tongue moves during the pronunciation of the vowel.

In most dialects of English, the sentence "no highway cowboys" contains diphthongs.

DIPHTONG

• A dipthong begins on one vowel and ends on another.

( they are made from two vowel sounds put together)

• The whole must be said in one breath.• There are eight diphthongs in English:

Dipthong e – i

Words with e-i:
