Assist Diocesan teams in the production of publicity material 6. Photograph diocesan events and people as required and manipulate digital images for use with electronic media 7. Film diocesan events and people as required and edit digital film using Adobe Premier Elements (and appropriate software updates) producing finished projects

PURPOSE OF JOB

To assist the Diocesan Director of Communication is achieving the aims of the Communications department, working within the diocese and with media to actively promote the work and mission of the diocese.

PRINICIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Write and prepare articles for the Diocesan publication(s) as well as researching and preparing press releases

2. Work with the Diocesan Director for Communications to produce copy

3. Distribute material through appropriate media to appropriate groups

4. Encourage and assist parishes, clergy and diocesan personnel in sharing “good news” stories and new initiatives both internally and with local media

5. Assist Diocesan teams in the production of publicity material

6. Photograph diocesan events and people as required and manipulate digital images for use with electronic media

7. Film diocesan events and people as required and edit digital film using Adobe Premier Elements (and appropriate software updates) producing finished projects

8. Advise diocesan personnel, clergy and parishes on dealing with media enquiries when appropriate

9. Build good relationships with media contacts, actively promoting the work and mission of the diocese in local, regional and national media

10. Develop and maintain a regional media contact database

11. Respond to telephone, fax and email enquiries from media regarding the Diocese when appropriate

12. Maintain and develop the diocesan website and required and regularly update social media

13. Maintain diocesan email lists and addresses

14. Carry out general administration including maintaining filing systems, organising and attending diocesan meetings and training as required

15. Assist with design and delivery of PowerPoint presentations as required

16. Undertake any ad hoc projects as directed by the Diocesan Secretary and the Diocesan Director of Communications

17. Support the Diocesan Ethos Statement and uphold the teaching and the current guidelines of the Church of England, and at times, be the public face of the diocese

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Demonstrate creativity and flair for writing, publishing, film and photography

Journalism qualification with a portfolio of published work Enthusiasm for journalism with a desire to contribute the mission of the

diocese Working experience of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Previous experience using Quark or In Design and Photoshop Understanding of Social Media Ability to work to tight deadlines in a busy and challenging environment Demonstrate a proactive approach to work with the ability to work with

minimal direction Excellent communicator with a confident personality Outstanding written English and the ability to write copy Ability to work within a small team but also independently Must have own transport and full UK driving licence Travel to all parts of the diocese and flexibility at weekends is also a

requirement of the role
