This is an attempt to be a little more even handed with the additional groups who are prayed for as the year turns, and to include our church schools in our prayers.As usual, it’s a sizable document but designed to be quick and clear to read, and also to leave space for your own notes. Of course, you do not have to print it all out at once, and you’re welcome to reformat it, if you wish (a Word version is available from my blog, see website below).Sunday entries are designed to look at some of the bigger pictures in our Diocese – sometimes geographical (deaneries, archdeaconries, link dioceses) sometimes issues or activities (Vocations Sunday). If there is an aspect of diocesan life that you’d like included on a Sunday, do let me know. These are followed through the week by daily prayers from all over the diocese, and across the Anglican Communion, including the calendar of saints and other worthy people. Bromley and Bexley Archdeaconry

Over the next few weeks, many of the churches in the Archdeaconry will be thinking about how to engage with the community with regards to sharing the Easter story. There are still a few churches that have a Walk of Witness on Good Friday, and these are often ecumenical events. The one in Sidcup usually draws a good crowd and is always rounded off with hot cross buns. Talking of which, there will be a number of churches who will be giving these out to the public at some of our mainline stations, showing hospitality and at the same time finding a reason to share the story about the death and resurrection of Jesus to those who are clearly ‘on the move’: no easy task. One or two parishes will be inviting the local schools in to the church so that they can hear about the Easter story through art and drama. In all things let us pray that the Lord will bless these endeavours.

Diocese of Jerusalem“When the days drew near for [Jesus] to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem” On Palm Sunday people from all over the world join together in an ecumenical procession led by the Latin Patriarch. Today we welcome Jesus as King and Saviour; we cry “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord…Hosanna!”This pilgrimage imagery is iconic: the distribution and receiving of palm crosses and olive branches are a sign of our own journey of faith. Here in the Holy Land people cry for peace and reconciliation. The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is causing both peoples grief and pain. The whole world watches closely while many are praying for the peace of Jerusalem. On this day, let us set our faces toward Jerusalem. Let us pray for the Anglican communities spread in the five countries of the Diocese: Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria; for the different institutions of education, healthcare, and rehabilitation, where we serve the needy and the poor. Let us pray for the Abrahamic religions, and all communities of faith, as they struggle to live together in peace, harmony, and tranquillity. Let us remember our sisters and brothers at St. George’s Cathedral and the link with Rochester Cathedral and our partnership in the Gospel.

Gravesend deanery

Gravesend Deanery is preparing to launch a new Mission Plan: ‘Grow together, Share together, Work together’. The parishes of the Deanery are working to raise our identity as a Deanery and to share resources and prayerful support more creatively and imaginatively.

As a Deanery we are supporting 2 major new projects – A Christians Against Poverty Debt relief centre, managed by

Carey Laughland, which is urgently in need of volunteer befrienders.

Gillingham deanery

Please pray for Gillingham Deanery as we begin a new phase of planning our shared mission and ministry and plan ambitious events with our ecumenical partners for the “Thy Kingdom Come” initiative this May and June. In particular, please pray for the Chaplaincy teams on the Medway universities campus and at Medway Maritime Hospital. Also for the congregation of St Augustine’s, Gillingham as they welcome Antony Lane as their new Priest-in-Charge, St Luke’s Gillingham, as they continue in interregnum and St Mary’s Gillingham after a long period of ill-health for their Priest-in-charge. Harare

Please pray for Bishop Chad Gandiya, Dean Farai Mutamiri and all the diocesan team, that through them the church in Harare may be encouraged and strengthened. Pray that the church might be a beacon of hope through the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Please pray for improvements to Zimbabwe’s infrastructure, that the water and electricity supplies might be more reliable, that the continuing effects of drought might be relieved through a spirit of generosity. Please pray for political stability, for economic growth and for the peace and security of all.

Give thanks for the official opening of the Anglican University of Zimbabwe in Marondera, and pray for all who will teach and who will learn there, that through their learning they and Zimbabwe may be enriched.

Please pray for the partnerships between parishes in the Dioceses of Harare and Rochester which so enrich the lives of both, and for the Harare Partnership Group that supports the work of the partnerships and helps new partnerships to flourish.

Attic Retreats is a peaceful and calming environment in the midst of the busy town of Chatham. Give thanks for the large number of friends and supporters who have given their time and resources to enable ‘Attic Retreats’ to open and thrive.
