This week the Outreach Office served 253 people asking for food assistance. We see many new neighbors who have never needed food before. All of them are very grateful for the ability to bring food home to feed their families. This week a young mother wanted to make sure she was in the right place to receive food. She and her husband are raising 5 small children. As we started to load the food into her trunk she was amazed. With each bag or box of food she expressed her gratitude. When we were finished she stopped and said she thought she would be getting a small bag, which she was very grateful for. But she received milk, eggs, meat and produce as well as basic food staples, several large bags and boxes. She drove away offering her gratitude. All this is possible because of the tremendous outpouring of generosity from St. John the Apostle parishioners, together with donations from Good Shepherd and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parishes. Thank you for your help during these uncertain and trying times. It has been a wonderful opportunity to spread God’s love to many new neighbors.
Esta semana, la Oficina de Servicios Sociales atendió a 253 personas que solicitaron asistencia de alimentos. Vemos muchos nuevos vecinos que nunca antes habían necesitado comida. Todos ellos están muy agradecidos por la capacidad de llevar comida a casa para alimentar a sus familias. Esta semana una joven madre quería asegurarse de estar en el lugar correcto para recibir comida. Ella y su esposo están criando 5 niños pequeños. Cuando comenzamos a cargar la comida en su cajuela, se sorprendió. Con cada bolsa o caja de comida, expresó su gratitud. Cuando terminamos, se detuvo y dijo que pensaba que iba a recibir una bolsa pequeña, por lo que estaba muy agradecida. Pero recibió leche, huevos, carne y productos agrícolas, así como alimentos básicos, varias bolsas y cajas grandes. Ella se retiro ofreciendo su gratitud. Todo esto es posible gracias a la enorme generosidad de los feligreses de St. John the Apostle, junto con las donaciones de las parroquias de Good Shepherd y St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Italy Pilgrimage Canceled
Unfortunately the October pilgrimage to Italy with Father Tim Thompson must be canceled due to the Coronavirus.As of now, it is uncertain whether or not the airlines will be including Italy as one of their destinations as soon as October. Food Pantry
During these unique, trying times we have all seen examples of fear, of hoarding, of selfishness. But you trusted and you gave! The last week has shown the true spirit of our parish. Donations of food have streamed in to help care for our brothers and sisters in need. The clients are very grateful for the assistance as a reflection of God’s love. Please continue this generosity by a donation, especially:

Food Pantry hours:Monday & Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Tuesday & Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Donations can be brought to Food Pantry during open hours. If that is not convenient, please bring them to the Administration Building. Food and supplies should be placed outside of the glass door on the north side of the building, and checks, cash or cards should be deposited through the mail slot near the front doors.
Outreach Volunteers and Donors
Much has changed since our country has responded to COVID-19. The Outreach Office is running on much less volunteer power as we try our best to stay safe for our clients, the volunteers and the donors. Each person who volunteered at the Outreach Office brought their own personality and charism to the office, the clients and each other. They are sorely missed!
Because of your dedication to the Outreach services our parish provides, we are able to serve over 250 people a week asking for food, diapers and formula. We continue to be a sign to each of these families of our shared brotherhood. The clients are very grateful for the assistance and we pass along their gratitude to everyone who generously donates food and diapers. God willing we will return to a new normalcy soon. But until then our parish will continue to share our faith with each bag of food we distribute.
Act of Spiritual CommunionMy Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.

Stewardship ReflectionSixth Sunday of Easter
For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be God’s will, than for doing evil.
1 Peter 3:17The old line says “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” Many of us are diligent in our planning and making sure things are progressing smoothly. Then disaster strikes, we don’t get the result that was intended or an unforeseen problem arises. Many times we may respond negatively and ask, “Why me? I did everything right!” Here’s the thing – adversity humbles us and reminds us of our dependence on God and not on our own self-reliance. Rest assured, God has a better plan in store for you.
Porque es mejor sufrir por hacer el bien, si es la voluntad de Dios, que por hacer el mal.
1 Pedro 3:17Un viejo dicho dice así: "si quieres hacer reír a Dios, cuéntale tus planes". Muchos de nosotros somos diligentes en nuestra planificación y nos aseguramos de que las cosas progresen sin problemas.
