Vigils held for victims of Manchester terror attack
Vigils have been held in Bradford Cathedral, Leeds Minster and Huddersfield, with a vigil at Wakefield Cathedral next Sunday following Monday's Manchester Arena bombing. We are the Diocese - serving the community
Two short films are released this week as part of the year-long campaign to tell our story. Election hustings held in churches and cathedrals

Bishop Nick's visitation charge - read in full
In visits to each of the Episcopal Areas, Bishop Nick has been highlighting the changes that the C of E will be faced with in the coming years. He has just completed the last of the annual Primary Visitations in which churchwardens are formally admitted to office. Read his address in full here
Hope for the Estates conference makes an impact
Leaders of churches on urban estates have come together from across the diocese for the second 'Hope for the Estates' conference. The aim is to offer a support, share ideas and create an informal network for ordained or lay people involved in mission on urban estates - more here
Prayers for Manchester at Kirchentag celebration
Prayers have been said for the victims of the Manchester bombing at the opening of the 2017 Kirchentag celebrations in Berlin. Bishop Nick, Bishop Jonathan and Archdeacon Beverley Mason are all speaking at the four day event which will also be attended by former US President Barack Obama. More here
MU Worldwide President visits the diocese
Lynne Tembey, Worldwide President of the Mothers' Union spent several days last week discovering just a little of what Mothers' Union members support around the diocese. A young mum's baby unit in Wakefield, New Hall prison, midday prayers in Ripon, a branch meeting in Boroughbridge and a conference hearing more about the impact of dementia were just some of the initiatives she explored. Howzat! - Leeds clergy cricketers make strong start
The Diocese of Leeds Cricket Team, runners up in the final of last year's Church Times Cup, have made a strong start to the new season. In their first two matches they beat the Diocese of Chester/Liverpool side by 65 runs and, this week, the Diocese of Manchester by 123 runs. More here

Hollin House Open Garden
The garden of Hollin House (home of Bishop Nick & Linda Baines) will be open to visit on Sat 10 June (12-5pm) in aid of St Gemma's Hospice, for which Bishop Nick is patron. Donation on entry. More here.
Were you married in 'The Summer of Love'?
Fifty years on from what became known as the Summer of Love, Ripon Cathedral is inviting couples celebrating their Golden Wedding to renew their vows in a unique service on June 11. Couples who were married the year the Beatles sang 'All you need is love' will be taking part. More here

The Great Get-Together - what will you do?
Picnics, BBQs & sports days are being planned to mark the anniversary of Jo Cox's murder. Organised by the Church Urban Fund with support from Brendan Cox, the Jo Cox Foundation and Archbishop Justin Welby, churches are urged to hold "Great Get-Togethers" over June 16-18. More here

In this year's Bradford Literature Festival (30 June - 9 July), Bishop Nick is taking part in three events on Sun 2 July, Bishop Toby hosts an evening of sacred poetry at Bradford Cathedral on Sun 9 July, and Dean Jerry Lepine chairs an evening on William Blake's Jerusalem on Sat 8 July. More here.

The annual 'Whit Walk' celebration for St John the Baptist School, Dodworth took place on Friday. Pupils, parents, grandparents and carers wore fiery Pentecost colours as they processed from school to church behind a local farmer on his tractor and year 6 Samba Band. More.

Team Cycling Challenge for Ride + Stride
Each year the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust run an event called Ride + Stride, which involves people getting sponsored to visit as many churches in a day as they can, either by foot, on a bike or by car. This year they are introducing a Team Challenge for Cyclists for teams of up to eight cyclists. Find out more here.
Journey of the Magi
Get ready for Christmas 2017 by hosting a performance of Journey of the Magi by Springs Dance Company. Delights audiences of all ages. The show portrays the original Christmas story whilst drawing hilarious and poignant parallels with our own preparations for Christmas day. More here.
