designs that you areembroidering. Cut the muslinfabric to size.

Once the fabric has been cutto size, measure and mark thecenter point. To do thismeasure the width of therunner, divide thatmeasurement by two andmark that center down thelength of the fabric.

Connect those marks to makea line that extends down thelength of the fabric. This linewill be used to place theembroidery designs.

Design placement is easierwhen using templates. If youhave embroidery software, print templates of the center,rectangle/border, and cornerdesigns.

If you don't have embroiderysoftware, then draw atemplate approximating thesize and shape of thedesigns.

If you've printed templatesfrom your embroiderysoftware, then the centerpoint and axis lines shouldbe marked. Poke a smallhole through the center pointand align it with the centerpoint on the fabric. Line upthe horizontal line on thetemplate with the horizontalline that you drew on thefabric. Then, mark thevertical axis on each side ofthe template.

Remove the template anddraw a line connecting thevertical axis lines. Theselines will be used forhooping.

Next, put the circle templateback in place by aligning thecenter point and axis lines asyou did before. Tape thetemplate in place so it willnot shift around.

Add the rectangle/bordertemplate next to the circle.Align the horizontal axis lineon the template with thehorizontal line on the fabric. We left one inch of spacebetween the rectangle/borderand the circle.

Poke a hole through thecenter of the template andmark the center point. Markthe vertical axis points aswell. Tape the template inplace.

Add another rectangletemplate aligned exactly withthe first rectangle to create arepeating border. Align thesecond template with the first, connecting the edges andaligning the horizontal axislines. Tape in place. Mark thecenter and vertical axis points.

Repeat this for as manydesigns as you'd like to add.

Next, add the corner designtemplate. Arrange it 3/4 of aninch from the end of the fabricand mark the placement, lining up the center point andaxis lines with the lines thatyou have marked on thefabric.

Repeat these steps forplacement on the other side ofthe table runner. When youhave made all of your marks, remove the paper templatesand connect all of the verticalaxis lines.

The designs will beembroidered from the centerout, so we'll begin with thecircle first.

Spray a piece of cutawaystabilizer with adhesive andsmooth the fabric on top.Hoop the fabric and stabilizerby aligning the lines on thefabric with the marks on thehoop.

Attach the hoop to themachine, load the centercircle design. Move the hoopso the needle is right overthat center point, andembroider the design.

When the circle has finishedsewing, unhoop the fabric. The first rectangle design willembroider next. Spray anotherpiece of cutaway stabilizerwith adhesive as you didbefore, and hoop it with thefabric. Align the lines on thefabric with the marks on thehoop. You may find that theembroidery that you justcompleted is hooped -- andthat is okay, it won't distort thestitches.
