You will show me the path of life,You will show me the path of life,You will show me the path of life,You will show me the path of life, the fullness of joy in your presence, O Lord. the fullness of joy in your presence, O Lord. the fullness of joy in your presence, O Lord. the fullness of joy in your presence, O Lord.

In Jesus' day, tax collectors were not popular people. They were collaborators with the Romans and were despised by many

Jewish people. The tax system allowed them to charge more than what was required so that they could make a profit for themselves. Thus, they were considered sinners by their

countrymen. Observers in the crowd that day grumble because Jesus dines with a sinner. Throughout Scripture, Jesus' choice of dinner companions set him apart from other observant Jews of his time. In first century Jewish culture, to dine together was to show a bond of fellowship and peace among those at the table. Observant Jews did not generally dine with foreigners and

sinners. Yet, Jesus chooses to honor the tax collector, Zacchaeus, by staying at his house. Even before Jesus comes to his home, Zacchaeus shows himself to be someone in search of salvation.

We know from Luke's description that Zacchaeus was no ordinary tax collector; he was, in fact, the chief tax collector and a person of some wealth. In his search for salvation, he humbled himself by making a spectacle of himself by climbing a tree. Jesus recognizes the faith of this tax collector exhibited in his search for salvation and calls him down from the tree. In the hospitality he extends to Jesus and in his conversion of heart,

Zacchaeus is raised up by Jesus as a model of salvation.

Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services This is only the second time this collection has been taken, and is approved as a national collection every three years.

The first collection in 2013 raised more than $8,239,000.00. These funds support AMS programs and

services, including Vocations, Evangelization, Sacramental Records, the Tribunal and Veterans Affairs. This collection will be taken up on the weekend of November 12-13 2016. The next collection of this kind will not take place until 2019.

A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION

On Tuesday, November 1st, we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints. The Feast of All Saints gives all Catholics the opportunity to honor all the saints, both those whose holiness of life is known

only to God and those who knew them. “God...raised up in the Church a great multitude of saints...not only the saints and blessed we honor during the liturgical year, but also the anonymous saints know only to him.” May we

rejoice in the holy men and women of every time and place, that their prayers may bring us God’s forgiveness and love.

IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DIOCESE OF GREENSBURG, THE PARISH OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED .

THE FEAST OF ALL SOULS is Wednesday, November 2nd. Please submit your All Souls Day intentions by tomorrow, Monday, October 31st, to the Parish Office. All intentions will be placed on the Altar in honor of your loved ones. All Souls Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM at Christ, Prince of Peace.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Eucharistic Adoration will be held on Tuesday, November 8th, following Mass at

St. Lawrence Church. Adoration will close at 9:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend.
