Introduction

The BDX-2000 Series is a new MPEG-2Digital Video Services System from Sony. The system includes the BDKP range offunction boards that install in different sizesof rack-mounting Interface Units withinternal bus architecture. The BDKP rangeincludes boards for use in both HDTV andSDTV systems. Once installed in anInterface Unit, these boards are controlledand monitored through SNMP, TCP/IP orRS-232C. The flexibility of thesecomponents makes them simple toconfigure and reconfigure as systemrequirements change.

Like its predecessor the BDX-1000 Series,MPEG-2 4:2:2 coding has been adopted forthe BDX-2000 Series to maintain imagequality regardless of content or data rates. As well as MPEG-2 4:2:2P@ML andMP@ML, 4:2:2P@HL and MP@HL are alsoavailable. This provides a wide choice andconsiderable flexibility in both HD and SDapplications.

Within the BDX-2000 Series, the compactBDX-2300 3-RU Interface Unit providesHD and SD or SD multi-channel outputsthat will meet the needs of broadcasters andvideo service providers. This is a size ofunit that is also ideal for system packages incontribution applications. Anotheradvantage of the BDX-2000 Series is that amultiplex function is included in the systemboard supplied as standard with the BDX-2300, so an additional multiplexer is notrequired.

The BDX-2000 Series is an ideal digitalvideo services system to be used standalone, or integrated together with Sonyvideo servers, VTRs and other videoequipment. Its components provide anexcellent audio-video and data transmissioncapability while offering a potentialreduction in transmission costs.

The A/V transport stream compressed withnon-Sony products, whose specifications meet the MPEGprofiles/levels, shown on the right, can also be decodedthrough the BDKP-D2001.

FeaturesVideoDecode mode

- Format compliant with: MPEG 1080/59.94i, 480/59.94i, 576/50i - Decodes signals compressed with the following MPEG profile/level:

MPEG-1MPEG-2 MP@ML (Up to 15 Mb/s)MPEG-2 4:2:2P@ML (Up to 50 Mb/s)MPEG-2 MP@HL(Up to 80 Mb/s)MPEG-2 MP@HL-1440 (Up to 60 Mb/s)MPEG-2 4:2:2P@HL (Up to 100 Mb/s)

Common video and audio functionsTS input selects

The BDKP-D2001 can select one program from the incoming TS stream viaDVB-ASI. It can decode up to one video stream and two audio streams exceptSMPTE audio.

Time codeBoth LTC (Longitudinal Time Code) and VITC (Vertical Interval Time Code) canbe decoded. LTC output is via the time code output terminal while VITC isadded on the video output.

Frame synchronizerA frame synchronizer is built-in to synchronize the reference sync and theoutput video signal. Since this frame synchronizer synchronizes with thereference black burst input signal through the BDX-2300, an external framesynchronizer is not needed. In this mode, the audio signal is fed into aninternal frame delay and a sampling rate converter block.
