Digital Trends Software
The Digital Trends software is designed to explore the use of certain online services. It consists of a
software programme for your Windows based computer and a browser add-on for Mozilla Firefox.
While you are using the Internet, the software registers which websites you visit and which ads can
be seen on these pages. Each time you start the browser the add-on is activated automatically
unless you deactivate it in your browser. Please do not deactivate the Digital Trends software
permanently as you will drop out of our study if no data is received.
For other support questions or if you would like a new download-link for example, please contact us
This manual will describe the download, installation on Windows and the activation of the Digital
Trends software in Mozilla Firefox. You will also find more information on how to uninstall the add-
on at the end of this manual.
Thank you for your participation!

Downloading with Mozilla Firefox
On the download page, click the “Download”
button. Please be patient, as the download is
specially created for you and therefore requires
a few seconds to complete.
The further procedure depends on the browser
in use. Below are instructions for downloading
with Mozilla Firefox.
Firefox will not allow you to run the installation
of the Digital Trends software directly after
downloading it without saving the program first.
Please click “Save File” when this dialog
appears.
A tiny green bar (—) may appear under the
Download Manager button in the toolbar to
indicate the progress of the download. When
the download is complete, please click on the
“Download Manager” button, then on the
“Open Containing Folder” button to open
the location where the Digital Trends software
.exe installer program was saved.
This may, for instance, be the default
Downloads folder or any other folder you
previously have chosen. In the containing
folder, please double-click on the Digital
Trends software’s installer program
icon to start the installation:

The user selection for Digital Trends Software
For privacy reasons we only want to analyse
the internet usage of members of the Digital
Trends Programme, not other users of the
computer on which the Digital Trends software
is installed. Therefore, you have the option
each time you start the browser to indicate
whether you are a member of the Digital Trends
Programme or someone else using the
computer. If the latter, choose “Guest” from the
user dialog and click “OK”.
In order to switch users, you can open the user
dialog at any time by clicking on the icon
in the Windows task bar, next to the clock.
