OPEN DESK TEACHER’S TOOLKIT FOR E-CLASSROOM John J. Macasio

The classroom teacher, who lives and works

in today's interactive and connected world,

is always challenged to embrace the

“experience of understanding” facilitated

through the use of interactive gadgets,

creativity application, and collaborative

technologies.”

Relevance and effectivity of any teacher

begin by “being in the digital space” meant

for 21st century citizen. They have to realize

the value of teaching and learning within the

“e” condition of today’s society.

“e” condition is where learners get oriented

in using computer, Internet, mobile and

social media to fulfill their needs to be

entertained, informed, connected and

recognized. To become active, creative and

productive.

The importance of remembered lesson;

performance in examination; and observed

roles for students are getting better with

“technology enriched experiences” that

build the essential skills of collaboration,

communication, critical thinking, creative

problem solving, and self directed learning.

The “technology-mediated presentation,

activity, references and assessment” make

better the capability of the classroom

teachers to bring attentive interest, real-

word situation, time extension, delivery

enrichment, lesson remediation and

interactive engagement in the way learners

acquire, create, remember, share and apply

knowledge.

The emerging Internet based communication

and collaboration platforms make better the

means of the classroom teachers to engage

in the social dialogue that educates the

senses, and bring the positive habits

supportive of community building.

Most classroom teachers will agree on the

need to be relevant, meaningful, effective

and enjoying in the 21st century classroom

of interactivity, creativity and connectivity.

However, the motivation is enabled by

building the resource and capacity of all

teachers to initiate, learn and sustain the

practice of teaching with interactive

technologies.

The enablement speaks of education ready

and open to use F-framework, T=technology,

and C=content that will guide all teachers to

create, maintain and improve the 21st

century classroom of interactivity, creativity

and connectivity.

F = framework speaks of definitive

principles, methods and results that supports

effective teaching and learning with

interactive learning technologies to take a

shape inside the classroom

T = technology speaks of technology

solution standards, configuration and

infrastructure to compose the hardware,

software, network and skills to compose the

environment or platform of technology

enabled interactive learning.

C = content speaks of knowledge and

medium to acquire, create, manipulate,

share, re-use to construct and apply

understanding.

OPENDESK TOOLKIT is no locked-in

aggregation of framework, technology

and content to build capabilities of

teachers to align the use of interactive

learning technologies in teaching and

learning.

The Open Digital Education Solution

Toolkit for Teachers (OPENDESK

TOOLKIT) has began in 2004 to attract

teachers and administrators attention to

the availability of free to install education

software and re-usable digital content in

basic education.

The aggregated framework, technology

and content is offered as start-up

resource to build competencies and

content to realize and sustain purposive

improvement of teaching and learning

through the use of open standards and

global benchmark on digital content.

It gives attention to education-ready

software and multimedia content that

match the understanding and

performance defined in the learning

competency published by the

Department of Education.

The version 1 of OPENDESK is shared

freely for the use of the Technical

Services Office of the Department of

Education to provide digital content in

DepEd computerization program. It is

also given freely to teachers who

attended school-based training on ICT

sponsored by service providers and

education organization.

The shared framework, technology and

content are not meant to be prescriptive,

but facilitative in placing into the hand of

every teachers the ready-to-use and

open tools to design, plan, implement

and evaluate learning with interactive

technologies.

The OPENDESK TOOLKIT project

searches, reviews and promotes digital

application and content that placed

among its condition of use the terms –

free, open, sharable, distributable, fully

functional, and agree on global standards

of user experience.

The Open Digital Education Solution

Toolkit for Teachers version 2 contains

the following digital tools:

1. Digital Whiteboard

2. Presentation Maker

3. Activity Creator
