This is a piece of textile design by Angie Lewin. It has been digital printed and design under the concept of

nature in a season. This piece of art work belongs to a series of Winter Stem collection. The collection has 4

different color schemes but same pattern. The composition and layering technique is effectively created to

create a whole sense of uncontrollable blowing leaf and flower. Relating back to what I intended to do, this is

something relevant to what I have done and would like to present in this project.

    Personal Textile Image

My personal textile is a sarong. Sarong is a garmentconsisting of a long piece of cloth worn wrapped around

body and tucked at the waist or under the armpits, traditionally worn in Southeast Asia. In countryside of

Thailand, the place where I was born, it is commonly worn in elderly or women usually wear it at home.

Sarong could be a symbolic item that represents the culture and lifestyle of its people of each part in Thailand.

The reason that I chose this textile is that I like how old people in Thailand can identify which part of the country

you came from by just looking at this textile. That is what so fascinating about it. It is the identity of my origin and

    background.

Apart from being one of my identities, this piece of garment belongs to my mother. My grandmother weaved it

for my mother to wear to the local festival back in the countryside. My mother loves it as it was made by love

and determination and I love it too.

Sarong has many designs and pattern depends on the culture in each part of Thailand. The place where I got

this piece of textile is in Northeast of Thailand where the pattern commonly consisted of variety of color. It is a

woven fabric consists of dyed silk made by loom.

I love its colour theme, as my favourite colour is purple. With the composition of flowers pattern and variety of

colour it gives me the felling of joyful and happiness.

Personal Textile Relating to this Project

(The Diagram and text relating the personal textile to final works)

    Concept and Theme

The concept and theme of my personal textile is relating to the nature. The pattern was designed to represent

the local flower of its origin. This is something that can also relate to the concept of my final works. As in my final

works the concept is to create a pattern or an illustration of the Dandelion (As I would considered as a flower),

as part of the Wild nature.

    Composition

The composition of the pattern is also related to the design of my final work. The pattern is design to draw a

focus onto the main element part of the textile. It is positioned to be in a central of the whole piece of textile.

This is stand out the main character of this piece of textile. As in my final works, the main element of the pattern

is also drawn out by the supporting elements.

    Component Layering

The pattern was created throughout the layering

techniques. AS shown in the diagram, the leaf pattern

was the first layer, following up with another flower

pattern and end with the main flower on the top layer.

Relating to my final project, the layering technique is

used to arrange the component on the design. This is

help to point out the main element of the design.

    Color Shading

As seen in the diagram contains a color shading

techniques. Despite the fact that the color tones which

is totally opposite from what I have presented in myfinal works. The techniques of using the same color

tone, with the cool tone color in the design, helps to

unite every piece of the elements together. The

shading pattern is kept in the same layout throughout

the whole textile. This is something that I have adopted

into my final works. By keeping on the color used in the

design, it can keep the concept and create a

relationship to every single piece of element on the

    design.

The Concept of Wild Nature (Adjusted)

Natural beauty, natural growth, uncontrollable, unruly and etc., these words can be described as Wild

Nature, the true beauty of nature in which human is not involved to create it. Landscapes, wild animals, wild

plants or even grassland are the part of wild nature that creates such a beautiful illustration to this world. In this

project the idea of wild nature is created together with the contribution through natural dye, block and stencil

printing techniques by the use of natural product along with natural color scheme of yellow and brown scale

along with the technology designing tool program. The imagery of sunlight and solid ground, dandelion and

the filed is presented throughout elements on the works. To create patterns, digital tools are used to edit shape

and color of the pattern. Layering and composition are considered to be the main techniques for the

representation of the concept. All the patterns represent natural concept to produce a textile that has an

insight of beautiful scene of dandelion filed, a beautiful landscape that is natural growth and commonly found

in many areas. Through blocks and stencil used and technology available, the ideas and concepts of Wild

Nature have been brought onto the fabric.

    Reflection on the Project

    (Paragraphs addressing the given questions)

For this project 2B I have enhanced my skill and knowledge of using the tools to create a piece of art work. I

found that working with digital tools was really fun and convenience as when I have done something wrong I

could just easily undo it which is totally different from when I was working in the previous project. Working with

digital manipulation gives me more chance to explore and try out what is best and worst for the project. Even

though it was fun and interesting but it does it annoying sometime when I could not find the tools in Photoshop

that I need. But after a few hours of getting myself to be familiar with the program, thing was more like funagain.

To incorporate the concept into the project, I mainly used the coloring techniques as a representation of the

theme that I have design. AS well as choosing the most relevant figures to be layout on the image. To

demonstrate my concept, all the color and elements were design to create a story and the feeling for the final

    work.

I would consider my two final works as a symbolic and abstract of wild nature. Each element was designed to

be a symbol of its original object. As well as being an abstract piece of art work to create a sense of idea

throughout the figure and color used.

The image was fully done in Adobe Photoshop CS 6. Even though I have been introduced to this program quite

sometimes ago I have not been using it much and only know the basic tools of this program. I could say that I

rarely use it but enough to create these two final works.

Referring back to my Project 1B I picked up bit and pieces of my 3 in my project 1. The background of the final

work 2 was taken from the Blown away image. The dandelion figure in both final works was taken from the

Dandelionand the background pattern or final work 2 was taken from The section image.

My intention is to concentrate in one part of element from Project 1B. I purposely picked out bit and pieces of

element to put into this project. The theme, ideas and concept is still kept in the same path as my previous

    project.

    Final Works 1: The Sunset

Description: This digitsl generated work is an abstract form repetition of the wild nature with the sunset. The main

element of this image is the dandelion which is laid randomly to demonstrate the dandelion field,

uncontrollable direction and blowing in the orange sky of sunset. Here I chose to use hot color tone to convey

the feel of sunset, contrast with the cool tone of white to bring out an illustration of the dandelion. Dark color of

black was chosen to indicate the ideal of night time after the sunset. This image was deliverd from the work of

my stencil printing technique and the block printing. (Stencil print of the background figure of the dried tree

and the block printing of thr dandelion, white figure)

Program used: Adobe Photoshop CS 6

    Techniques/ Tools used:

    - Gradeint tool: Used with background to shade the color of orange, yellow and black- Curve adjustment: Used to exphasied the color and blend in the color together, used with white figure- Optical setting: Used to turn the visibility level of the dried tree down- Color balance: To set the color of the finished overall image. This is to brigten up the color and to keep

    balance of the color.

Final Work 2: Surfing On The Ray

Description: For this digital generated image, the concept is still kept to the imagery of the dandelion blowing in

the air with the sun ray as a background. This could be considered as a close up version of the whole idea. The

background is designed to be in hot tone, orange and yellow to keep the concept to represent the sun. The

curvy line in the background is the abstract form of the sun ray. Dark color tone and multiple layers of the

dandelion is used to conveys the idea of closer detail of the dandelion. I chose to use gray/ dark color to point

out the the dandelion as a main element of this image. White color also used to help support the black color to

stand out. For this second final work the background pattern that I used was delivered from one the work in my

project1B. I wanted to use the original color in this work to keep the concept of color from the nature. The

insignt of this image is that the dandelion is blowing and surfing on the sun ray, uncontrollable movement of thewild nature.

Program used: Adobe Photoshop CS 6

    Techniques/ Tools used:

    - Gradient Tool: Used to shade the color of the sun ray and to create the curvy lines- Curve adjustment: To emphasied and blend in the color in each figures- Blur Filter: To blend in the background color, yellow and white- Dust and Scratches/Noise Filter: Created the distorted pattern to give the feeling of the imperfection- Hue/ Saturation adjustment: To adjust the overall color image

    Supporting Image 1

Another image to demonstrate the same idea and the layering techniques for the final work 1. Here I used

pretty much the same techniques as presented for the first final work. I experimented on the change of color

balance and the curve adjusting tool. For this image I have left out the gradient tool as I would like to define a

    different feel of this image.

Here I experiment with the black and white setting for the image. It does give a contrast feeling of the day and

night time. This image was laid out to be exactly the same pattern but different color scheme. I found this

experiment is quite interesting, as my own digital research, the work that the artist does was in the same pattern

but different color. Even though it is the same pattern but it gives totally different feeling and meaning to the

    image.

    Supporting Image 2

This is another experiment I took along the way in creating second final work. I tried the techniques of

overlapping and color mixed in this image. The result was quite interesting and it is still kept the o concept of

the flow of dandelion with the interaction of the sun ray. I feel like this give the feeling of the fun and

excitement mood to the image itself.

    i

As the same approach of experimenting in different color of tone. This is the setting of the same image but in

gray scale and curve adjusted to exphasise the different in contrast of color. I gives a very interesting result. It

some how give the feeling of totally opposite of concept of this project. Metalic and artificial feeling was

    created from this image.
