• Madelyn Landgraf is 72 points shy of joining the illustrious 1,000 point club. She is averaging a team-best 13.1 points and has 47 double-figure scoring games throughout her career, including 12 with 20-plus points. Landgraf would become the 14th player in program history to reach the milestone.

The Falcons sit tied atop the NACC standings with a 12-2 league record. The grueling stretch run of con-ference games to finish the regular season begins tonight. CUW has six games (five at home) over the next 19 days.

CUWFalcons.com dug into the statistics and found a few interesting notes for the fans.

Falcons flexing their muscles in the paint on both ends of the court:CUW definitely has a size advantage over almost every team in the NACC and because of that they dominate the paint on both ends of the court. The Falcons rank first in the conference in rebounding (total rebounds, rebounding margin and defen-sive rebounds). Because of this they have been able to limit opponents second chance points to single digits in 11-of-14 games. Meanwhile, on the offensive side of the court their size has al-lowed them to pull down the fourth most offen-sive rebounds in the NACC and turn those second chance opportunities into 147 points (10.5 per game).

CUW doesn’t have time for rest and relaxation over the next three weeks because a NACC title is up for grabs:If there is one thing about this group of Falcons that goes unnoticed in their abilitiy to handle pres-sure and the grind of a basketball season. Starting tonight and during the next 19 days they will play six games, including five of those at home. While fans may wonder how the student-athletes can handle the pressure, they will respond with ‘that is nothing’. During the month of January CUW played 10 games during a 29-day span and posted a 7-3 record. As well, they ended the month with six games during a 15-day span. Needless to say, these Falcons can handle a difficult schedule.

Senior leadership by Megan Coenen and Mad-elyn Landgraf shining as of late:As mentioned above the Falcons have played a lot of games in the past month and they have been guided in the right direction by a pair of experi-enced seniors; Megan Coenen and Madelyn Land-graf. The duo has played in a combined 190 games over the last three-plus season, including 123 starts. During the last four NACC games they have combined to average 27.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals.

Defense is in lockdown mode:If you aren’t impressed by the Falcons defense this season, you must really like offense, because they have been shutting down opponents in impres-sive style. CUW ranks in the top four in the NACC in numerous defensive statistical categories, includ-ing first in rebounding margin and assists allowed. They are also second in points given up per game (52.9) and third in defensive 3-point field goal percentage (25.8). The Falcons have been making the opposition one-dimensional, which has led to foes having to go one-on-one for points. During 14 league games this season opponents have the lowest percentage of assists per field goal (42.9) against CUW.

Falcons knows how to get over the CIT hype:The Concordia Invitational Tournament hype comes weeks before the games are played and can last days after the contests are played. During the Stacey Brunner-Jones era the Falcons have compiled an 8-3 record in the game following CIT and are 6-1 over the last seven years. Last season CUW hosted Lakeland the game following CIT and earned a 62-54 victory behind a 51.4 percent shooting performance. Madelyn Landgraf led the Falcons with 15 points, while Brianna Wagner had a double-double (11 points, 13 rebounds) to go along with a career-high-tying six blocks.
