Getting a chance to play sports with your sibling in high school is quite common nowadays, but having the opportunity to compete together at the collegiate level is rare. Both Jared and Noah Gosse are getting the rare opportunity this year for the CUW Men’s Basketball program. Despite being only a year apart from an eligibility standpoint, Jared is actu-ally three years older than Noah and this is their first time playing togeth-er on the basketball court. Jared and Noah both graduated from N.E.W. Lu-theran High School in Green Bay, Wis. (Jared in 2012 and Noah in 2015). An injury prevented them from playing together on the hardwood, but they did have the chance to play football and baseball together as Blazers.

“I caught Noah’s first touchdown pass in high school and I also caught Noah’s first game he pitched in baseball.” Jar-ed stated. Jared originally attended Concor-dia University Chicago for two years, where he played football and basket-ball, but he felt it was time for a change and transferred to CUW in the fall of 2014. With his older brother already at CUW, Noah had the opportunity to re-connect with his older brother on and off the basketball court. “I wanted to play basketball in college, but I did not know where. Jared told me he was going to play basketball at CUW and I thought why not take this opportunity to play with him.” Noah said.

Having family by your side to motivate you and pick you up when you are down is always a plus. For Noah mak-ing the transition to a new school and a new team was a lot easier, knowing his brother was there to help him out. However, it goes both ways for the brother in supporting each other.

“Having Noah here, someone I can go talk to if I’m struggling or having a bad practice, is always a big help.” Jared stated. “I can’t even explain how much Jar-ed has helped me out this year in numerous situations. If Jared wasn’t here I don’t think I would have made it through my first semester, to be hon-est. He’s been a blessing to me and its nice having him around.” Noah added as the two bumped fists. With the two playing together it gives their parents an opportunity to watch them play and share these family mo-ments with one another.

“It’s awesome seeing our parents here at games, knowing we have that sup-port system is great. They try to make it to as many games as they can, but even when they can’t come, I know I can always call them up at any time and talk to them about our games.” Jar-ed said. Having the opportunity to play colle-giate basketball together was some-thing Noah and Jared felt they couldn’t pass up. The Concordia University Wis-consin Men’s Basketball program is grateful they took that opportunity, just as the Gosse brothers are as well.
