The Falcons won both meetings against the Stars last season, win-ning by an average

of 13 points. Under Shawn Cassidy, CUW is 9-2 when facing Dominican. Guard Malcolm Bowers led the Falcons with 14 points and seven rebounds in the 72-54 win over the Stars at home last season (Dec. 16). In the second meeting last year, CUW had four players score in double-digits to help lead them to the 80-72 win on the road.

ERIC KITTELKittel had an impressive outting in the season opener

last Saturday. The junior point guard poured in a career-high 30 points, which included seven 3-pointers

in the 98-91 win over UW-River Falls.

The Falcons drained 14 3-point field-goals in the season opener, which is tied for fourth most 3-pointers made in a single game in program history.

CUW recorded 13 steals against UW-Riv-er Falls, six of which came from senior guard Taron Edwards. His effort set a new career-high for steals.

Edwards was also efficient on the offensive side of the ball, as he shot an impressive 92 percent (11-of-12) from the charity stripe in the season

opener.

Defense wins championships: CUW’s de-fense last year was one of the best in the conference as they ranked first in steals with 11.8 per game, being the only team to average double-digit steals. They also ranked first in conference games with 18.1 turnovers forced per game, which was al-most three turnovers more than the second ranked team. The Falcons also ranked third in the conference with the least amount of points given up per game with 69.0.

Ball security: The Falcons were one of the best teams in the conference last season in ball security and not committing turnovers. A large contribution to that impressive stat is the ball security of junior point guard Eric Kittel (Brillion, Wis.) who had a 2.31 as-sist-to-turnover ratio a year ago, which cur-rently ranks first in NACC history.

From one sport to the next: Being a three-sport athlete at the high school level is common, but doing it at the collegiate level is almost unheard. Senior guard Malcolm Bowers (Germantown, Wis.) is one of those rare talents. Bowers is currently part of the CUW football team and will be entering his fourth year in the basketball program, and will then turns his attention to the track & field team following his time on the court. Bowers has his final football game of the season at home on Saturday, but is expect-

ed to be on the bench for the men’s basket-ball season opener that night to support his teammates.

Kahlfeldt closing in on 1,000 career points: Scoring 1,000 points at any level is always an impressive feat and senior for-ward Keith Kahlfeldt (New Berlin, Wis.) is only 155 points away from becoming the sixth player in program history to reach the century scoring mark. Kahlfeldt current-ly ranks 10th in program history for points scored.

Prinsen’s continuous improvement: After appearing in nine games and scoring four points as freshman, senior guard Brad Prin-sen (Oostburg, Wis.) has continued to im-prove every year since. As a sophomore and a junior Prinsen finished third on the team in scoring averaging at nearly 11 points per game. He led the team in scoring three of the last four games to close last season.

Target on their backs: Being the defend-ing conference tournament champions and selected to win the NACC Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league’s head coaches and athletic communicators, the Falcons know everyone will be gunning for them this year. They are ready for the task at hand and will be prepared to battle game in and game out.
