Goals
• Using Photo Story to provide oral, research and writing artifacts for the portfolio.
• Receive equipment and record serial number.
• Learn to use the hand-held digital recorders and combine these files with previous Audacity files.
• Review the use of Audacity to create digital recordings.

Recording and Rendering• Work with a neighbor.• Create folder in My Documents.• Open Audacity.• Click Record.• Speak slowly and clearly into the
microphone. • Render (save) file as an MP3 to My
Documents folder ELL Oral Fluency.o Last Name_First name_Oral Fluencyo Complete the Properites screen.
• Switch roles and repeat.
Digital Recorders
Recording, in brief:• Slide the HOLD button in the
opposite direction of the arrow. (Turn On)
• Slide the mode switch (on side) to DICT.
• Press the UP and DOWN arrow keys (on front) to choose a folder. Press OK button (on front) to set.
• Press the REC button (on front) to start recording.
• Press the STOP button (on front) to stop recording.
Digital Recorders
Playback, in brief:• Press the LIST button (on front) to
select the folder. • Pres the UP and DOWN arrows
(on front) to choose the file you want to play.
• Press the OK button (on front) to start playback.
• Use the + or - buttons (on front) to adjust volume.
• Press STOP button (on front) or OK button (on front) to stop playback.
• See User Guide for information on erasing recordings after you have saved them.
Digital RecordersSaving files to your computer, in brief:• Slide the USB port out of the recorder using the
USB button (on side). Be sure it clicks into place.
• Connect the recorder's USB to the USB port of the computer.
• Launch MY COMPUTER. The recorder will appear as a device – WS_400S.
• Locate the folder you recorder to – DSS_FLDA, for example.
• Transfer the voice files (WMA format) to your computer by saving to your portfolio file.
• Click the SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE icon on the task bar located at the lower-right corner of the screen. Click Mass Storage Device – Olympus DVR USB Device.
Adding to Audio Files
• Import student’s audio file from the ELL Oral Fluency folder in My Documents. (Previously saved Audacity MP3 file.)
• Click the End button on the tool bar to move the cursor to the end of the recording.
• Record the new session using the headset-microphone OR import digital recorder file.
Adding to Digital Recorder Files• In Audacity, click Project - Import Audio.
• Locate the digital recorder file. • Use the Time Shift tool to move the imported
recording to the end of the previous file. • Render the new file using the same name. • Edit Properties by right-clicking the file
name. o Add the new assessment date
Recording and Rendering
• Work with a neighbor.
• Practice using the digital recorder.
• Practice importing the new file
into your practice file.
