This series is a experimentation of the impact of color on the perception of feminity. This series explores the basics of portraiture and the manipulation of photos in the Adobe Suite.

@UnholyLemonz 2018Series, Digital Print on Aluminum 16” x 20”This is a series of self-portraits that began based on a pun of a nickname given to Lemuel Subdias in high school, “Lemons.” The artist would then refer to himself as his username on social media @bluulemonz (pronounced Blue Lemons). It quickly evolved into the series before you. This series explores the environments the artist grew up in, while combining modern technology with Early Renaissance influences in lighting, drama, and poses. It became the basis of inspiration for his next drawing.This series was displayed at the Pembroke Undergraduate Research and Creativity (PURC) Symposium at UNCP, Pembroke, NC.

The Unholy Trinity 2018Graphite and Acrylic on Gold-leaf 18” x 24”Based on the theme of “Doppelgängers,” Lemuel created a drawing that reflects the three main astrological houses defining his personality. This drawing is a contrast and embracement between religion and astrology, A self-portrait that explores the artist’s religious background and the effects it has had on his upbringing. With clear Early Renaissance influences, the artist compensates for the lack of decoration and embellishments in his Pentecostal background and turns to an admiration for Catholic Art. This piece won 1st place at the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Art Exhibition.

PRIDE 2019Encaustic 12” x 12”This encaustic painting corroborates Pride History Month and celebrates the “coming out” of the artist. The colors of the Pride Flag are included in a non-representational form, while including the portraits of the artist and an ally. This piece won 2nd place at the 2020 Peach Belt Conference Art Exhibition.

This series is an exploration of the artist’s undergraduate journey, which includes two works, one sculpture and one digital print. This series was exhibited at the Held in Higher Light Exhibition, 2019 at the AD Gallery in Pembroke, NC.

La Llorona 2019Digital Print 6’ x 8’This life-sized self portrait is a reflection of the artist’s years and struggles during his undergraduate career. Each figure shown in the print represents each year he attended at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The artist uses his influence of theater to increase the theatricality of the piece. This piece explores the stability, the psychology, and the emotional growth of the artist.
