A Guide to Studio 3.0 and introduction to various design
styles
Finding your Design Style
Everyone has specific designing styles that they tend to use most frequently
How do you find your signature design style?
By searching other designers work and seeing what you are drawn to
most
Important notes to remember:
• There is no right or wrong design style, it is simply a matter of personal preference• Your signature design style can be a mixture of many different styles
• Your page layout is often influenced by the photo’s and determines the style usedYour signature style is what you use
most frequently
Introduction to Styles
Wide variety of design styles!
Super Simple
Very Busy
Everywhere in between
• Usually 1-3 small pictures• Usually soft neutral colors• Clean simple backgrounds• Grouped in small clusters• Usually off center• A lot of white space
Classic/Contemporary
• Clean straight lines • Simple shapes• Large pictures• Design fills the page• Focus is on the pictures• Few embellishments
Traditional
• Intricate patterns• Many background papers• Colorful• lots of ribbon and embellishments• Accentuates the pictures• Still maintains order and balance
Artsy Crafty
• Focus is the artistic design of the flowers, not the pictures
• Pictures tucked inside
Floral Art
• Bright fun colors• Busy design• Lots of shapes• Lots of embellishments• Large groups of chaos :)
Pop
This is typically my design style:Usually a mix between Artsy Crafty & Floral Art
Your Homework
Find your signature design and create a page layout reflecting your design
style through a process called “scraplifting.”
What is scraplifting?• Scraplifting is simply “borrowing” a page layout
idea from another designer and creating it for yourself• When scraplifting, be sure to give credit to the original designer when you share it with others. “I saw this layout by Jill Means and thought it would be fun to use for my daughters b-day party”• Scraplifting is a great way to start with someone else’s idea and see where it leads you!
How do I scraplift with Heritage Makers?Step 1: Find a design layout that you love!
Step 2: Open up the preview in a window that you can see while in the Heritage Makers design studio
Step 4: Make any changes that you would like to customize it to your personal preference
Step 3: Start with the background paper and work your way up through the layers. Copy the embellishments as closely as possible including drop shadows and effects
Example of Scraplifting
Go to www.scrapbook.com • Create an account• Go to “Gallery” then “digital layouts”• Search through digital layouts and save pages
that you like to your “favorites.
Where can I find layout ideas?Image search on the internet for “scrapbook
layouts”My personal favorite is www.scrapbook.com because you can save them easily to refer back to later!
