How does chemical digestion happen?

Enzymes

Enzymes are chemicals which break the larger molecules down into smaller molecules.

They work like scissors!

Starch

Amylase

Starch Small sugars

Why does digestion need 3 different

enzymes?

Amylase- cuts the carbohydrate Starch into smaller sugar molecules.

There are 3 types of enzymes we have to know about:

Protease - cuts proteins down into amino acids.

Lipase

- cuts fats down into the smaller fatty acids and glycerol.
